  1. I just can’t do car shows, the wheels have to be going around.

You can't even get Hamb'ers to agree on what they want to see or how they want to build their cars. In SCCA, we used to say everyone wants an "I" class. A class I can win. Well, everyone here wants an "I" show. Just the cars I want to see. Never gonna happen.

  5. I have no problem with car shows, enjoy going sometimes, but as I said building and driving is where it’s at for me, from April-October my old car/truck are my only vehicles I drive. Never fail to make me smile.

I am not bored with the car scene and go to Mooneyes, LA Roadster show, Grand Nation Roadster show, and Big Bear car show. I mostly go as a spectator since i don't want to spend $45.00 or more to show off my car. I rather drive my 40 to breakfast at Cracker Barrel or pickup something at Home depot. And outside of maintence. i am glad my forty is done- have you seen the prices on builders now days?

I see a creamery in there Mark. You'd get along with my wife. She also considers going for ice cream 'regular errands', lol.

Man after all my talk yesterday of not going to car shows, my band leader texts us all last night and says 'we're playing a last minute gig Saturday. 50s car show'.... So that made me a liar!

Yeah, that is an older pic. I went on a diet and lost 65 lbs 3 or so years ago and have not had any ice cream since....

Sorry, I can't agree with this. A show of all period correct 40 & 32 Fords would be a great show. I'd go to that.

You'll have to let me know when the Big Bear show comes around, I'll meet you up there. I'd love to have a reason to drive the cars up there. And let's do the annual Super Bowl Day Run to Peggy Sue's Diner next year! I'll meet you at the start.

  12. I’ll add to my comment, I don’t mind car shows as long as there’s a swap attached to it,
I’ll look at cars that appeal to me to see how the builder has made brackets and fittings or dressed up early motors but I know where must of my time will be spent.

I Love the Hot Rod reunion In KY. This year I came back un-inspired. Why? well one of my buddies that i had met there had passed away a couple of years ago. Still not right with him not there. Heat. It was 98 on Thursday. Hard to have fun in that. Low car count? there were not nearly as many cars!! Buy this time of year I'm getting ready for Nats in L'ville. HMMMM not this year. I think I'll go, but I'm not nearly as excited. Could it be BURN OUT?? I do enjoy driving my cars, listening to my music. I am sort of concerned about my enthusiasm. I will drive my car today!!

What gets me interested at a car event is talking to guys who have built the car they brought. I don't like some of the builds if they're not the era or style I am interested in. But if I like the car, and talk to the owner to see what he knows about it, and he's done most of the work; I'm liking it even more!
It doesn't have to be a car worth six figures, and can easily be a $10k car and I'll like it if the owner built it. I'm just kinda tired of the high end shop built cars that the owner had little involvement in other than paying the bill.

I don't do shows. Driving, building, firing an engine for the first time, helping kids with car projects - never gets old.

  16. One assumption that I don't agree with is that A "high end build" done to the nines is pro built..not always the case.
There are many home builders (some on here) that are fully capable of that high quality of build.
My hats off to them, for putting in the time, effort, and skills required to take it to the next level (I'm not that guy).
Summers here, let's get these cars out, regardless of the destination.

Would you explain that statement a little more? So history being the main line then every build will be the clone of a famous car [or not] or what? Explain what a new build should be to fit here. Running errands, bottom one is Ice Cream shop, had gone out of business:(.

  18. Reading thru the other posts I see that most of us enjoy just working and driving something WE CREATED. We all know our problems with our cars and will get to them someday. we like to brag about what we just bought at a Smokin deal or I just fabricated this mount with a half-Ass welder and MY 2 hands.
This past week we went to a fair let large car show.
About 300 cars there anything from Model A’s to 2019 Hyundai. What i found disheartening is of those cars there over 120 were 2015 and newer, Most with Strap on or Taped on scoops, LEDs and in Saran wrap .
A few Cool Willy’s Gassers, 39 Ford convertible couple Chopped top AD Chevy trucks.
But when Awards were given out Best Of Show went to a 2019 Camaro Best paint went to a 2022 Corvette , Coolest hot Rod was a 2018 Hell Cat.

Sad to say some cool cars did not get anything as the Camaro club voted in their Club , Modern muscle voted in their Club as well at the Corvette Club.

I went home and went to the garage and started to fab up motor mounts for a project I’m working on, Cutting metal, Measuring, Grinding, welding.
The dog looked at it and looked at me…. I did Good… Thats all that matters.

I thought everyone knew that this place focuses on 1965 and older cars built in the style of the same era.

I still enjoy the good static car shows but also love the Cars and Coffee events. Casual and usually done before 11AM or so then take the hot rod of the day for a nice ride in the country and grab a lunch somewhere.

Agreed, one of the most talented builders I have ever seen worked out of his two car garage. His cars appeared in multiple magazines, coffee table type books, won awards at ever show including national events, concourse events etc. He built cars for himself and customers, everything from period correct street rods, concourse restored Muscle Cars (especially MoPars), C1/C2/C/3 corvettes, 50s classics plus others. I learned a ton working with him, he passed a few years ago and still miss working and talking to him to this day. He also drove his cars on a regular basis and encourage his customers to do the same, said if you can build it once, you can refresh or build it again.

I belong to a local club and have included some shots of member cars so I can explain what we do at a show with bunches of new fresh off the showroom floor cars and cars with LED lights in the fender wells and rubber band wheels.
We park together, put out the chairs and open a trunk of the member with the cooler, then we have a good time together. If someone comes by and says hello, then that's great and if not... that's great too! I believe the great philosopher Monty Python said: Look on the bright side of life.

I have a tough time sitting still at a car show. We have a local cruise-in at a pizza place. I go to chat with my buddies.

Remembering back to all the shows I went to in the mid-west, kkoa etc. My memories are of before and after the shows. The shenanigans.

That's why I really enjoy events like the HAMB Drags, Hot Rod Hill Climb, and Pinetree Jamboree. Cool cars, drag racing, good friends old and new.

Obviously, you have never had lug nuts and wires in a nice 60 weight oil sauce.

  28. Speaking of which....are they still doing that indoor winter swap at Luther Chevrolet that we hit a few years back?

I think that traditional hot rods and customs were built in the first place with some innovation and breaking new ground, eh? The Icebox or Ron Dunn's Shoebox ? I would think [I'll get flamed for this} that with a Traditional Hot Rods and a Tarditional [was I thinking Tardel?o_O] Customs and Antiquated Forums the Hamb would have a little slack for the 65 and back odd balls [me] as being a Toolmaker its hard not to machine where no machining is needed. I never post in the Traditionals because I don't have anything uniquely traditional unless its my Crosley:D:rolleyes:.
