I've got the bug to get a truck and I think I've found a good candidate compliments of HRP. it's a 49 and appears to be in decent shape from what I can see in the pictures. This is where the questions start. I want to most likely bag this truck, get it to sit on the ground at the flip of a switch. I was doing some poking around on the local Craigslist and found two donors: a 91 Z71 full size truck with a 350 and a 91 S10, no details on the motor. the S10 is actually a couple hundred more than the Z71 but I'm sure I could make the prices a non factor. Is the Z71 too large of a frame to put the 49 on? this is the most important obviously. if anyone has suggestions, comments, experiences please by all means post up. input is my most valuable tool. here's the truck: Thanks
ive got the same truck 54 . im going to do the same thing. first a Z71 is a 4x4 chevy truck and i dont think they made them untill 95/96 check the ad. 70-79 comaro clip may be the best for the money. a 2x4 chevy truck that year is close but not exact. the 91 has a hump in the frame for the rearend your 49 does not youll have to make the body fit. lots of work. search for threads on here. go to tech arc. good luck . let me know if u need any thing else
i never thought about the 4x4 aspect. I'm pretty sure the donor "Z71" as it will be called is not 4X4 as the ad did not say. when you say camaro clip, am I doing frame grafting? i was looking to drop the body on a complete frame and notch for bags accordingly.
silverado is the 2x4 and a Z71 is only a 4x4 only... so if the ad says its a z71 than it goes without saying. just dont want u to buy a 4x4. now for the comaro , yes grafting will be an issue. and like i said a 80-96 silverado(2x4) will work.
There's past posts on here about this subject. The S-10 is your best bet. I'm doing a '46 onto a '84 S-10 that I scored for $50.00 for the whole truck!(5 speed and all!)The guys from SO-CAL did a whole photo build on one. Look in the Tech articles.AL
i worked on a 49 previously clipped with a camaro sub, and it works but they are really almost to wide for the truck. we had to get damn near postive offfset wheels so it would fit inside the fenders. i would go s10
i saw that post and he doesnt show all that work on the rear frame or the bed . your going to have to raise the bed floor or clip the rear ,lots of work but u can do it .good post.
