Hey All, Hoping to get some confirmation before I proceed. I have a stock 1960 Ford Falcon Wagon with 4-lug setup. Does have the Maverick 8" rear end. Looking to put a 15x7 Wheel with a 195 55 15 tire. Maybe a 205 55 15 on the rear. Or maybe a 60 series. The wheels are a Legendary HB 44 wheel from Eckler/CJ Pony. Will this fit??
Probably not. The outer wheel houses on the early Falcons "pinch" toward the center as they go up. On my 1960 Falcon sedan I run 195/60-15's on 15 x 7" wheels, with 4-1/2" backspacing. The only way that I was able to do this was to build mini-tubs for the outers, and push them to the outer quarter skin. They would not fit otherwise. I am also running reduced sized front wheel arches on the rear. I have a Ranger 8.8, that is 56-1/2" wide, with the drums, but run SVT Cobra discs, so it is a little wider, as the hats are thicker than the drums. The axle is the same width as the 4-lug Maverick. The stock axle on the Falcon is 56" wide. The wheels that you have selected have 4-1/4" backspacing. Given my rotor hats, this would put your wheels, and my wheels in about the same place.
Here's a detail shot of the "pinch" in the stock outer wheel house. The outer mini-tubs that I made are fairly simple. In the inside picture, the quarter panel still had the stock wheel opening.
Looks Good. Guess if i have to open it up no worries. I am a Fabricator so not a big deal. Was only hoping to not have to make an major modifications. Guess i will know next week when i get the wheels and tires. Thanks for the information again
Morning Sir, Thought you may be curious on the wheel fitment. Other than rolling the wheel well lip I got good clearance. If I really push the car extremely hard on right hand turns I get a real slight rub. That I think I can also fix.
I run a 225/45/17 square set up on my 1960 falcon wagon. Rear ford maverick rearend, SN95 rear disc with 1/2 in spacer. Front SVT cobra 13in brake upgrade with 1in spacer. The rear fender lip was rolled, no other modifications to the wheel tub.
My sedan is about 3-inches lower than that, so that helps you out. I cannot go lower without getting a fix-it ticket, and/or getting stuck getting out of the driveway. If you pull the wheels, you should be able to to spot where they rub. A bossing mallet, or a rubber hammer should be enough to move the metal away. It's not that thick. You might need to repeat this a couple of times to make certain.
If I was lowered 3" the car would not go many places. Pictures may not show it but the car is lowered and sits pretty low. Has a great stance. The rub was just a big glob of undercoating.
I made the middle of my exhaust system out of 14ga, and have a small skidplate on my T56. I just drag it.
