Anyone here done that before? I know where there might be a reasonable deal on a decent 4 dr but cant bear the look of it. Any pics would be cool. Jack

Yes, the Menges Twins in Central Cal have been building one. They're on Instagram.

You know, they might be doing a Zephyr, but it's the same process.

Make it Kustom on youtube is doing a lincoln. I love the Matranga merc but looking at a 4 dr 40 merc I was thinking of something that looks like 39/40 Ford look but as a chopped coupe.

I have never figured out which I liked better, the Hirohata Merc or the Matranga Merc. Seems to depend on which way the wind is blowing.

I haven't seen anyone do it yet, and my photoshop skills are not clean enough to pull it off very well, but I love the idea and I wholeheartedly support it if you go for it. Seems to me that the front door length is good and the rear quarter window will work fine as a coupe quarter window, but the trunk lid and trunk area as well as the top of the roof skin/crown will need to be heavily reworked, would be nice if you had the trunklid and some surrounding sheetmetal from some kind of coupe from the era to start with.

That's what I was thinking. I might have some explaining to do to my wife.

Hey Desotot, looks like you may be off on a cool adventure. I bet a bead roller will come in handy! LOL

I wouldn't make it a 5w. If you're gonna do all that work, make it a 3w. Just my .02. Or even a convertible.

Coups have been done to death, turn that four-door into a five-window "Ute".

A Carson top tub would be easy,
but if you can find a 40+- Ford deck lid you could make a coupe easier.
Regardless just get it and figure it out later!

  14. i have been thinking of doing this to a 40 ford. i looked for a sedan to make into a roadster. (coupes were kinda pricy to cut up) my plan was to graft in a coupe trunk and go from there. that way i would have long doors. but fornd a coupe i couldn't p*** up.

Brewsir’s Merc was built from a 4 door
There was a great build thread on here
    I believe it’s in Japan now BBF44D1A-C7E5-4A83-A822-B601AB77A800.png C922B95A-44ED-46C0-84D4-F78C1BBE34EB.png

@Squablow is the man for 4 door to 2 door conversions. He would be my go to for advice if I were to start one :D

I agree with - finding suitable donor parts for decklid, roof and sail panels would be preferable. Now, they don't necessarily need to be from a 40 Merc, hmmm  think in shapes at what would fit and could be worked with.
