A real, blue collar, hand-squeezed-dollars, allot of hard work, real man's Hot Rod.

This is an excellent example of the type, style, construction, and finish of the real Hot Rod's that I saw and remember, and like the one I got a ride in (327 powered) when I was 10-11 years old, and after that ride I was scared-to-death and hooked. Now 55 years later I still love my Hot Rod Coupe.

I personally find this bare-bones, no frills, plain-jane, virtually no interior, whatever exterior finish, to be what I want to make as a daily-driver now, in a way to honor the true-real-Hot Rodder's of 60+ years ago.

    Riverside with 442.jpg
Riverside, 1966 -- Couldn't Lose -- both were mine. My buddy drove my new 442 Olds and I drove my roadster. I just barely beat him using my patented "don't leave 'til you see the other car's taillights" (that's why I took up land racing). The Olds won C/Pure Stock and the winning (only) C/Street Roadster was disqualified because it didn't have front shocks (It was so stiff in the front they hardly mattered, just saving them a trophy.)

    Hello,

One of my favorite films is of a 1959-60 Tahitian Red/Candy Apple Red Roadster at Lion’s Dragstrip. The contrast of the colorful roadster against the orange timing tower with Mr. Childers and his 53 Pontiac ambulance made me think of the whole hot rod/drag race scene during our time there.

My brother and I had many conversations with Mr. Childers, and he helped us out on that accident day in 1960.
A friendly face at the ambulance/stretcher and kind words helped. Since the dragstrip closed, he stayed with my brother in the hospital until I got there with my parents. A good friend, indeed.

At first, I thought I had captured a pure street roadster class racer at Lion’s Dragstrip. it was close to the Candy Apple Roadster I filmed at Riverside Raceway in 1959 in the pits.

Then upon closer inspection, despite the whitewalls, painted rims, Moon discs upfront and a cool white tarp, it was not a street roadster. It was a powerful modified roadster that set plenty of records in the Hot Roadster Class at various So Cal dragstrips. It was the Brissette Brothers-Eichenhofer-Quincy Automotive Roadster.

Quincy Automotive was one of the top speed shops in Southern California, with a long list of drag racers and dry lakes racing involvement. In our opinion, Quincy was to Los Angeles racers as Reath Automotive was to Long Beach area racers. The lists are long from both early speed shops.

The name Brissette is synonymous with hot rods, drag racing, Bonneville and other fast roadsters leading into the FED world. We were fortunate enough to record a little history for those hot modified roadsters, before they went away as a class.
