WAIT.... You mean there isn't suppose to be oil spots under old cars????? Never heard of such a thing. I think he is trying to pull our leg. No oil spots...HA! HA! HA! That is just plain funny!
Too hot to work on it today and prolly tomorrow too. No big sweat. BTW, my 285/70s are 30.5 " tall. No speedo but the speed limit is 75 and nobody was passing me. Next time I'll put my 2.71s in. In fact, I once had a hot rod with 2.29s in the GM 10 bolt with a vega trans......road tripped the shit outta that car. Maybe I'll invest in a super tall set of spur gears before taking the trip.
Can you use the drained oil/gas in your two stroke mower? That stuff is too expensive to throw away these days.
A couple years ago drove my 32 sport coupe to the Speedway Motors coffee cruise (I-80 Papillion to Lincoln) with Rocky following in his Chevelle wagon, after a coffee & donut he made mention he kept getting an oily film on his windshield laying blame on the diesel rigs as they passed by, had to confess my speedometor sensor & rear intake gasket were weepy & possibly the rear main as well. Still leaking Rocky hope to get to it this off season.
Ron...Thanks for coming clean regarding the oil on my windshield! I shoulda known a leaky old 32 Cabriolet would be a prime candidate as a "leaker"! Is the photo in your avatar a recent photo of Burdik's car or a "how it was" photo from years gone by? Either way it sure looks better than when I owned it....
If you’re referring to my reply, as I said, I just bought chassis and drivetrain, used the engine only. I didn’t build it, but that 221 never left a drop on the cement it was parked over. Wasn’t pulling a leg, lol.
Cool car. Love that it's pontiac powered. Not a sbc or sbf like all the generic built street rods. But if youhave to test run it before a trip I'm guessing you don't drive it enough.
There’s a lot of difference between running around locally for a year or so, then driving a long distance. That why they call them a “shake down “ run.
"Yo Rocky, That photo with the old pro at the helm, was a track program cover feature at the beginning of the 1961 season as further evidenced by the date on the door just above the V-8. I don't recall any of his previous or later cars through the years having that particular distinction, a rather novel way to date the season.
My wifes Jetta is doing that.(valve seals) I add a cup full of Lucas and top off the oil every other week.
I drove my coupe 200 miles since last Sunday, driving locally (locally could mean a 100 or more mile cruise on any given day), so I do a shakedown run every week. I know what the car needs and what it doesn't need. A few urgent needs might be addressed before that 2,000 mile road trip, and it will likely get lifted on the hoist for a quick check over and an oil change before. I don't have to do a special shake down run to figure out what it needs, it gets one every week. I think every hot rod needs to be driven more! That includes mine, the last couple years its only averaged about 6,000 miles a year, used to be 8,000 - 10,000 miles a year.
Seems like your shake down run served its purpose. Some minor repairs need to be done. Not like the engine blew or something. Rocky, I love your car! It s very much an influence of how I'm building mine. Where on the West Coast are you going? Bonneville is coming up in a couple weeks. Are you going to be able to stop by there? I've love to see the car in person.
