In this video I introduce my new project. I am going to fit a Volvo M410 transmission with overdrive in my 1932 Ford. The one stipulation is that I don't want to cut the original K member. It will be a long series, but hopefully a fun one to follow. So sit back and join me for part 1. Thanks for joining me once again in Mart's Garage.

Great video Mart, but damn if this Volvo adaption didn't remind me of a 1950's western movie theater serial that was continued until the following week, usually the hero or a dame in distress was tied to an advancing buzz saw & we were held in suspense until the next episode...

A little ot but I have had several 700r4 transmission output shafts welded up and new splines cut. The output shaft was put between lathe centers and turned slowly by hand while being welded up with a mig welder. The shaft was turned to correct size and cut to length. Then shaft was sent to to get the splines cut. I did this for adapting the trans to the 1970's pickups that used the 205 and 203 transfer cases. Never had any problems with any of them.

That sounds like a lovely combination.

Apparently the Lay****-de Normanville overdrives can be tweaked by using stiffer hydraulic regulator springs, allowing a higher operating pressure, thereby increasing clutch holding power. The injunction against using overdrive in first gear is probably more about the cone clutch's ability to hold torque multiplied by the first-gear ratio than about hydraulic pressure at the corresponding road speed. A higher operating pressure should make that clutchless first shift possible.
