I need some sort of wire covering that's split so I can wrap it around the wiring. Something that looks good and can handle a bundle of wires up to 1" thick. The only thing I can find is the cheap convoluted, plastic garbage that you buy at the parts store. Don't want that! Any ideas/links?

My son has just finished wiring my 32 - 5 window and he used a Rebel wire kit and wrapped the looms with a fabric style black tape which he got from the US. He even wrapped single wires and the job really looks "traditional"
Not sure where he got the tape but I can ask if you're interested. Sorry, I can't post pics but he may have some he could post.

McMaster-Carr has the split, braided loom also. If I recall, less spendy than the major Speed Shop offerings. I used a bunch on my F-1.

The quality of split loom varies. Some of it is stiff and difficult to work with and will cut your fingers with its sharp edge. The best is soft and flexible and easy to work. Generally the stuff you buy at the chain auto part stores is the poor quality and the better stuff comes from wiring companies and electrical supply businesses. There is a difference.

This is called Friction Tape in the US. I used it on a car, and it's doing OK after 8 years. It has the look of being a home built car from the old days...nothing fancy or modern or professional about it. In other works, it looks very traditional. I like it.

I've also used reproduction non adhesive plasti tape, of the type that was used originally on GM cars (maybe others?), purchased from a restoration place. It has the old factory look.

Friction tape is nasty stuff. Used it for decades in the electrical trade to cushion wire splices, but always covered with 3M #33 tape over it. If left exposed it's sticky and is a dirt magnet. It will quickly turn brownish color from all the dust that sticks to it.
You can actually buy black cloth tape that's only sticky on one side like other tapes, and forms nicely to the wire looms. I found a place searching the internet that sold 1.25" wide rolls pretty darn cheap and bought 5 rolls to do my car, and have some extras. After a long time it still looks just like it did when I first wrapped it.
I hate those split loom coverings. Even the best look non odd.

Here's some options. The cloth tape is pretty good. I've used a light plastic version with out adhesive, but can't find it. No split convulted loom - but plastic in a loop roll with no adhesive.

Whatever you use, terminate it cleanly every 1-2 feet and start again. Makes any trouble shooting much easier.

Perhaps the friction tape you got back when was like that, but the newer stuff I've used has not had this problem. Still looking as good as when I put it on.

I used Hockey Stick Tape to wrap wires as well as the cracked steering wheel on me '39 p/u. Or there is this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Tesas-Advanc...ocphy=9031457&hvtargid=pla-406190500764&psc=1
Don't know anything about it but it sounds(?) like its good stuff.
    • -The most advanced high heat harness tape available
    • -Superior abrasion & heat resistant
    • -Resist chemical and fluid from engine compartment
    • -Solvent-free advanced acrylic adhesive & flame-retardant
    • -1 roll of Tesa 51036 (each roll is 19mm wide X 25meters long)

I prefer this style of loom. It accommodates differences in the size of the bundle some and it has a cloth look to it. More expensive but easier on old arthritic hands.

  17. Look up products for hydraulic lines, computer cabling, line covering. I bought some different types from Amazon and McMaster Carr (High temp covering) for the panel truck.

Techflex has a few different types (some are plastic).
    I bought this on Amazon:

    Or a Velcro style:

You can also use self sealing tape, but it's pretty permanent and only sticks to itself.

I'm going to use either the woven or asphalt cover on the '28. The asphalt isn't split so you have to plan it right first (all wires run already with extra for future).

Tesa Tape is a neat way to do the wiring. There are different types depending if you are wrapping the interior harness or an engine harness. The engine harness Tesa tape takes more heat, of course, and is a little thinner. The interior harness Tesa tape is a little thicker, and is supposed to keep rattles and noise to a minimum. It's good stuff - I like it.

Electriduct.com has many different loom options - some better than others. They can get somewhat pricey, and you might end up buying more than you need. But the quality of their stuff is better than Autozone, etc. Some of the corrugated loom from Amazon is also on the low end of the quality scale. With loom, it's probably you get what you pay for...

This is what I’ve been getting to replace all the black split plastic. This overlaps nice and I carefully tape the ends with Scotch 33 black electric tape. I use scissors to cut it.

The ends on mine have yet to open up. But I make sure the wires aren't stressed and pull on the product.

Painless wiring Cl***ic Braid cloth looks split braid loom.
Really nice stuff available in all sizes.

    https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/p.php?s=wloomcb

Summit Racing also sells Easy loom which is also a nice cloth look split loom which I think is better than the Painless product.

    https://www.summitracing.com/search?SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=Easy loom

They also have a nice fleece tape to use with it for joints.
    https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/72021
Or if you prefer they also offer a self sealing silicone type wrap which I used.
All of the wiring on my RPU is done this way and it’s all clean and neat and trouble free.
It’s also fully supported and mounted with Made for You Zytel Nylon T Clamps .

    https://www.made4youproducts.com/t-clamp

Summit Racing sells all of this stuff including the tapes and even the T Clamps too so it’s easy to get.

A few random pictures, the whole car is done this way even though a lot of it is hard to see :D:cool:
