I have a 34 panel I finally got running and now on to making it on the road, Runs and steers and stops all original but bottom of gas tank Swiss Cheese. are the Panel tanks the same as the Pick ups? No answer from Rock Island and a no from Drake. Is that like a hard no or you need to change the fill tube? any insight would really help
They are completely different, the Panel tank is under the driver’s seat, in fact it supports the seat. Standard was 10 gallons with an optional 17 gallon tank offered. ‘33 and ‘34 Pickups have the tank mounted at the rear of the frame, the filler is behind the fender.
My 32 BB is under the seat and this 34 panel is at the rear with the cap coming through the body. The seats in a panel are 2 buckets and the backs fold forward. The tank is behind the axle and filler comes through the left side like a pickup.
I will be dropping it as soon as I can get the transmission back into my roadster and off the rack. Way too hard to get up and down off the floor in your 70'sI'll do some quick measurements and see how many CI I have
They are the same I got the info from Tanks, but the fill tubes are different lengths the panel is longer for the wider body than the pick up bed. Found out the Vicky uses the same tank also but haven't been able to find out about the fill tube. I may just go with a gas door and not worry about it
If the length of the neck is the only difference, couldn’t you just cut the filler neck somewhere between the tank and cap, and use a piece of gas neck hose to make up the difference in length?
The filler on this style tank is threaded into the tank. I had to cut it to remove the tank since it was seized. Free now and that’s in the works, thank you
All 32 Pickups and Trucks had the tank under the seat. 33/34 Pickups and Panels went to the rear where the trucks stayed in the cab.
Thank you so much, my steel one didn't survive the Radiator Hot tank, I ordered one from Tanks and will be installing it as soon as it warms up a little bit. Will be converting to 12 Volts and adding a sending unit and changing gauges
