Hey Guys, Thanx for the w/s info. What all does it entail to put a Mustang II front end on '49- '52 chevs? Do you have to stub it, or just change cross member, spindles, etc.? Pork
Pork... shouldn't be anything more then hackin out the old cross member and stickin in a new one with what ever kinda suspension you wanna run (air, coil overs, etc) check out http://http://www.fatmanfab.com/06page4.htm those guys cover dang near any kinda application out there. Fatman Fabrications phone number is 704-545-0369.... hope that helps some... sik
i've heard rumors about the fatman (and others) tube style a-arms giving away....do a search. this has been covered many times. not trying to discourage, just a heads up brother
This site is a must for anyone with a 49-54 Chevy http://50chevy.com/ It'll answer a lot of your questions, as will the old threads here on the HAMB. Bryan
kropduster... heard the samething... but they do offer one piece stainless arms now, thats what i would probably run, imagine those would be purdy strong.
Porky4, On Mustang II frontends, read this thread started by Elpolacko first. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115209 Some manufacturers have some problems with their kits. If you have any other questions talk to Steve directly as he is very knowledgable about all types of ch***is suspension systems.
I'm running the stock Ford arms on my '49 Chevy P/U and my old man is using them on his '36 Ford P/U. Both have Chevy small blocks and no suspension problems thus far. Chris
the original suspension drops out in one piece. just drill and punch out the rivets. MII's had a problem with certain bolts breaking. never heard of the tubular arms breaking, though I could have missed it. it is a fairly easy thing to do... measure and square everything twice... tack it in.. install the suspension at ride height without the springs...measure again and put a fender on and see where the tire sits in the fenderwell. as a matter of fact.. see where the tires are with the original suspension before you even start... maybe you want to adjust it a bit. I like the ultra low for 49 - 52 chevys
There are legit problems with the Fatman kits. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115209&highlight=fatman Just FYI, it's not a rumor it is fact....
For a little extra, you could have corvette parts. http://www.progressiveautomotive.com/sweet.htm If I were doing this, I'd think real hard about spending a few extra bucks.
chevysof the40s also sells the sweet ride kit. Some pics of the m2 install http://50chevy.com/photos/fatman_mustang2 step by step http://50chevy.com/ifs.html#over I drive the car and drive it hard (like a jeep), so I will let you'all know if it ever breaks. The elpoloacko post on how to mustang2 is a good read. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70073
we have a 51 wagon with the Ch***is Engineering kit in it. It has pluses and minues - like all I would guess. Biggest so far is the way you can only use a manual rack. We have done cars with both manual and power. Power is way better.
Actually no... all the problems have not been addressed... Some kits from some of the manufacturers have had updates others have not. I believe TCI has addressed more of the issues than the others... Maybe reading the full thread would help, someone just installed a Fatman kit a month ago and som eof th issues are still present.
