You guys crack me up! :D

Oh, and no new updates on pinky since we made a last minute decision to take a trip to the salt and are leaving in a couple days now. So, we have been doing all the prep stuff around the house so my wife and daughter don’t have too much to take care of while we Silas, Samuel and I are gone. We have never been to Speed Week, so are a little excited to head that way. :D

  2. A friend of mine named Jack Davis from Iowa will be there. He owns a bicycle shop and will have a yellow box truck with his bicycle business painted on it as well as some cool bikes to ride around. He’s a really great guy and loves the Lord.

@guthriesmith looks good. On our Pinkie (same name given from a 8 year old Eli) we put a 67 Mustang dual res master cylinder. It was bolt in for the part itself and some tubing work to get the front and read plumbing sorted out...about a day job. Did not really notice a difference in performance but wont have to worry about loosing all my brakes if a wheel cylinder blows out.

You Smith boys have me looking at 4 doors, and yes even a 6 cyl. Edsel. Almost as bad as "flatheaditis".
Is this what we call "car sickness"? LOVE this thread !!!!! God bless you guys!

  7. I told you it was "Pinky and the Brain". Obviously he's not as charming as Rat Fink. I just hope nobody takes too much offense at this mutation . . .

Salt flats pro tip. You’re standing on a mirror, sun block under your eyebrows, nose and chin… might want to tuck those lose pants into your socks lol

There was flash flooding in Death Valley the other day - you know the Mojave desert. Like Meth Gators, didn't have that on my 2022 Bingo card

  16. Whenever my Dad and I would travel, the side trips were as fun as the original destination. One year, we left home in southwestern Illinois for a tractor show in LaPorte Indiana and would up detouring through Milwaukee to see the Harley Museum.

I’ve enjoyed several parts and project trips with my sons.
The last couple years my youngest has discovered a passion for old rides. Lots of fun times in the shop.
    Hard to beat

  21. That is a very beautiful y block, i think the 57s "thunderbird special" valve covers are my preferred though.

I actually have the original “Thunderbird Special” valve covers off my 56 from when I put some Offenhauser finned aluminum ones on it. But, we will likely stick with the chrome ones on this motor unless we find another set of aluminum ones.

Another Yblock gets back on the road, good for you guys! I have a set of curved script Eldebrock valve covers that would look good on that block.

I can't tell from the pic is that a B intake manifold. If it is I reccomend the summit 4 barell 750. Vacuum secondaries so you won't use em if it's not called for. Very efficient old carb design from back in 60's. Test really well according to Ted Eaton, and he should know.

If you want to get rid of them, let me know. Silas is in Tulsa pretty regularly. :D

And, yep, it’s a 57 intake. Planning to use the old AFB for now.

Motor is bolted in, but ended up distracted by lots of other things today to make much progress.

  27. Do you still have the old radiator
Got any tips on how to make the vacuum wipers work? Mine try to move but cant get past a little higher than park. I routed my lines from the manifold, to the vacuum pump in, then from vacuum pump out, to the vacuum motor.

Yes, we still have the old radiator, but it was leaking. And, I have somewhat given up on the vacuum wipers on these cars. Mine used to work in my 56 (sort of), but I just use Rain-X on it since it works better than the vacuum wipers.

  30. Nice to start with a clean garage floor. It makes it a lot easier to find dropped sockets.:eek:
