This might be the subject of a tech post - I couldn't find it doing a search

I'm putting the battery in the trunk of my '49 Chev - got any good hints on size/vendors for the '+' cable to the starter?

I know enough that it's got to be secured and not chafe (thinking of using aircrat 'Adel' clamps) and I'm guessing '0' or '00' guage wire is the way to go

  2. I do it with all my cars and get everything I need from a McMaster Carr Industrial Catalog. You might be able to find long enough cable at your local weld shop though. The McMaster catalog has good high quality merchandise. Good Luck

Haven't checked myself, but I have heard that you can get heavy gauge stranded cable from welding supply stores. Also, the old Minis had rear mounted batteries, so a vendor that supplies parts for them like Mini Mania may have something.

At the risk of reigniting some drama, I advise you to get a battery box from an old Dodge van if you are going to put a battery in your trunk.

I went through this a while back http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111084

I got some cool ends that have a compression fitting from napa, along with one gauge cable and some big *** shrink tubing. I ran the cable through some heater hose to protect it. Total cost was about $30.

Check out school bus garages and trucking supply places. They have cables made up or will make them for you.

Give your local reman starter place a call, mine makes up cables on the cheap with ends already on for you. You just tell them the length. Best prices around....Good Luck...H

    Dave Downs,

Look up Enos components in San Luis Obispo, Ca they have everything you need for a trunk battery location. The "0" welding cable is the best to use. Telephone number 805 544-8503
