When I was just a little kid, I went with my dad to pick up a few jeeps, in the barn was a Mustang up on a platform and tilted over with mirrors under it. So much chrome I was in awe. It was a “I like chrome “ moment for me.
Dad bought two military jeeps, but not the civilian one.

I need to look through my photo file, while stationed in Ft. Eustis Va. in 1965 -66 took photo's of the 56 Chevy (Venturian) it's been enough years ago, not certain if it was featured in Virginia Beach or the D.C. area. One of the flight instructors had a new 65 Impal S.S. with the early production 409 option & of course GM up graded to the 396 in later production.

 

I had a 65 Impala SS with a 396 and a glide. Fun car.

 

I dig the horizontal grill bars…

 

One thing I noticed were that the www went to a narrower band. Instead of 3” it looks like maybe 1-3/4 etc. not a narrow white, but not your dad’s www on his Packard.

Definitely the 390 the 327 may as well be a new crate 350. They all look pretty much the same. It won't shout old school like the 390 caddy motor.
Also some custom quad headlights would be very much 62 custom.

 

It's chrome exhaust pipe that usually comes up through the running board behind the cab and at the front of the bed, runs vertical until the top bed rail then runs horizontal to the back of the bed.
You'd burn your belly leaning over the side of the bed to put something inside the bed.

Could do without the headlight treatment, but looking closer at all the pics @Moriarity posted, dual stacked headlights was the real deal for '62.

 

I was 14 in 62, what stuck with me was the Cartoon they always had showing of Goofy the Dog as Mr. Walker - Mr Wheeler

 

That cat would not be THAT CAR without the headlight treatment.

It would be just some forgotten car.

Instead, it is an icon.

If I were building a 1962 or early 60's era car....that's the look... but I personally wouldn't replicate the grille and headlights now.

 

Funny you mention that…that’s kinda the color I am leaning towards.

Bright blue, or more silvery blue, either one can be loaded up with flake or pearl.
Post up the colors, the factory blues - early to mid sixties - are excellent too.

 

GM had a Nassau blue on the early Vettes.

This is not the GM color, but I like this range.

Anyone know what color Buzz Pitzens car was? It says Bahama Blue but that could be anything. I’m sure it was a factory color, just need to narrow down what it was on.

Don't forget the chromed bed chains with white upholstered covers. Make sure the belly burners don't breathe on them or they won't be white for long.
