I'm the guy that tears into everything without reading the directions. For several years every car/truck related topic I Googled or researched always seem to have an answer in a HAMB forum. So I joined. But like most things I did not read the rules nor directions. I mentioned my 69 SWB Chevy truck and my 72 K5 Blazer and I found out that 53 years is not exactly where it is at. I felt like at 53 years old both me and my trucks was the 'young whipper-snapper'. So in order to hang out with the cool kids I just bought a 1954 GMC. Pictures to follow. I will be using the HAMB knowledge one deciding to S-10 swap the or upgrade the suspension/brakes on the current frame. Doing a lot of reading right now. I have frame swapped many different things in the past, built dirt cars, etc, etc. Just trying to figure out which route works best for me. Great site. Tons of information and it is much appreciated. Scott
Welcome aboard! I joined the hamb when I bought my 51 chevy pickup. Just be forewarned - frame swaps are not a good topic here, but I'd love to see pictures of your 54.
I have read as much on the frame swap. I am still undecided. I am leaning toward keeping the original frame and doing suspension upgrades. But again, still in the reading and deciding stage. Scott
This was one where I put the cart before the apple. The deal on the 54 fell thru when the owner seen my eyes were really big and jumped the agreed upon price when I showed up to pick it up. Sad part was it was still a pretty good deal at the new price, but I sort of fell on the ''principle' sword. But since I bought a 1950 3600. It has an AMC Pacer front suspension and a rear suspension only the original fabricator could love. I have driven some questionable stuff before, even built some questionable stuff, but this is one has to be swapped out before the first ride. LOL I also bought a really nice 49 frame that is in amazing shape. Everything is there. The 50 truck has an AMC Pacer suspension, and the install looks pretty good. I am searching for parts to get to disc brakes and if I can find those I will more than likely leave the front intact. The first big work will be the rear. This is my first truck this model so reading and looking and searching for all I can. The frame is so nice I am actually looking for a better candidate to sit on it someday (big plans, as always). As stated, I am searching the topics on this board for info. Here we go. Scott
