Event Coverage Hot Rods In Louisville

Today was only few sprinkles barely enough to make ground wet. Saturday is forecast scattered thunderstorms early afternoon, but higher chance south of town. Thurs was also not much rain until overnight. Seems overall car numbers, swap meet and spectators are down a bit this year. Still lot of nice cars to look at.

 

Let them float into the storm drains.

Thank you for the update, it poured rain in Lexington today, glad Louisville was nice. Planning to hit the show tomorrow.

I've watched the drive in video's in the AM of the cars coming in the fairgrounds on YouTube and will say now the newer models are allowed the quality of some of the newer stuff looks pretty rough IMO. I have not been there now for several years and back then very few shabby cars, no patina, rusted junk, all nice with a high level of quality. Way back then my first impression was WOW ! just like first time back to the 50's I didn't know there was that many Kool cars in the world much less than gathering in one place in Kentucky or Minnesota. I'm sure many beautiful cars there but the early drive in video had a a lot crap, not even local car show quality, junk IMO. Times change, I understand the trend of skipping paint/chrome/upholstery because of today's money involved " It is what it Is" a common expression for me these days. I will be curious what the final car count is and what attending members say.

 

I went this year for the first time.
It will be my last time,way to much late crap for me and that doesn,t interest me.
If I want to see Chev citation station wagons,rusty jeep cherokees and mustangs ,I,ll go to the walmart parking lot.
I,m glad some people like the later stuff but it,s not for me

I'd say attendance was about 85% of a non-rain event. I went on Wed to pick up my swap meet tickets and some parts I had pre-ordered. Then returned on Thur/Friday/Saturday. Had to go to my grandaughters wedding shower on Sunday. Rain threatened almost everyday, but no torrential stuff........mostly a few showers if anything. I got a sunburn to prove it. The clouds actually cooled everything off and more enjoyable.....for me anyway.

What was the finally count? I saw a vide from the roof of the exposition center and the turn out in that area looks sparse. HRP

 

Build a killer hot rod…good enough to display indoors, and get rewarded with pictures of it with ugly black crowd control barriers in thousands of spectator’s photos! Priceless.

HRP, yes there was not as many as in some past years, but in past years it was like an overabundance. Not saying there can be too many, just saying its normally a "cup runneth over" type of thing. Even though it was down some, there was still more than you would find at just about any event someone might attend. I mean if you go to an event that normally has 1,000 cars and it overflows and has 1,200 cars........is that better than an event that was down on attendance but had 8,500 cars? Also, which day the video was made could reflect on what you saw. Wed/Thur are always less than Friday/Saturday. I had a really good time, spent lots of money, and met a bunch of nice people......and still didn't see all the cars that were there. Come on out next year and you will have a good time....it'll wear your eyeballs out and give your neck muscles a good workout.....I promise.

Another thing rodders should consider is that there are lots of vendors displaying their wares and offering discounts on lots of them. Many of them will bring orders with them for pickup and save you some money on shipping. Of course the local food vendors will rip you off, so bring coolers and sandwiches with you. You can see so many products first hand and ask questions about their products. That can save you enough money to pay for the trip if you are interested in some of the expensive items.

 

I was surprised by the turnout. With the horrible weather forecast I was expecting very few cars. Boy, was I wrong! Not like years past, but a strong showing given the prediction. Ironically, the weather was never really a factor all weekend. It was a great weekend spending time with my father and my son (three generations) as I don't know how many more NSRA Nats we will get to share (I hope many more)!

 

Got there about noon on Thursday, then all day Friday and Saturday. The sprinkles never bothered. Enjoyed the variety of cars and the vendor building. Lots of neat new parts. I'm always amazed at the inventiveness of the various manufactures. Got to visit with people I knew from my vending days. Came home Sunday 850 miles thru St Louis and Kansas City in 11.5 hours. Today I'm beat but it was worth it.

 

Thanks for the pics. Pretty sure the B-400 is a Minnesota car, it's a very cool ride. Was this in some sort of special display or awards area? (Not familiar with what NSRA is doing these days, haven't been to a Nats in years... )

Can't show you the side view of this beautiful car cause I don't know if the wheels are acceptable. I think they are......but ain't sure. They aren't real big, and the guy did a nice job insering a Buick badge in the center of each wheel. This was one really super nice car, and I was standing there as the guy drove it into the building. Don't think it had the original straight eight from the sound of the cam lope. If you could see all the details, bet this was a $300,000 car. What I would like to point out is that the guys who pour a lot of money into cars that are true works of art, they are looking to be over the top and draw attention. Quite a lot of them use wheels that are unacceptable to the Hamb, so I can't post pictures of those cars. Seems like a waste when there are so many really really nice cars.

 

I went Wed. with V8Bob and Jay, both club members and the rain was not an issue. It was hot and humid and by Sat. attendance seemed typical. There were a lot of trucks both traditional and newer ( up to mid 60s). I had a bad starter solenoid and spent Sat. morning in the Hot rod repair shop. I met some great guys there. Napa had a space inside where you could order parts and they had deliveries every 2 hours. Michigan Hotrod Repair Shop is volunteer and have been doing this for 50 years. I thanked them when I was there and I thank them again now.

 

It was very cool. I couldn’t get an angle where those barriers weren’t right in the way. I hesitated to post any of those indoor cars because of that. Not really fair to the cars.

 

@joel There’s usually a tip jar around,in the past after they’re help I’ve bought the guys lunch.
They’re invaluable at the events they attend.
