I think I have heard all the lame reasons behind the trend, won't mess up her hair, it's cool outside and I have the heat on, why own a convertible, it looks like crap imho. HRP

I used to do it in my 55 Metropolitan and in the 63 Impala ragtop I had out on the highway. It kept the wind from pounding so bad in the Impala when I drove it to work. In the case of the red ragtop I'd say that she has the window up to keep her hair in order as I believe the driver's window is down.

What cracks me up is seeing only the rear side windows sticking up, like rudders.

Someone must like them since they seem to have supplanted the roadsters.

  6. Well, we all know that roadster pilot's are a different kind of nut, many of them don't even have a top much less side windows. :D HRP

I had an OT '67 F-bird convertible with back windows that were barely operable. Would spend ten minutes working them down whenever the top came down. I didn't want to be one of "those" people.

HRP if you look a little closer that woman has a gotie & some crazy fur hat that goes down his neck , so I figure he was worried about losing it.
You are right top goes down , so do the all the side windows. If it is a really hot day , the top may not come down , but all the side windows do. On an open car your ac is the wind blowing in your face ... that how I see it.

Depends on how cold it is outside.

Or how hot it is. Sometimes the top down, air on, and windows up works best.

I have had several ragtops in my time, have an OT 33 years now and the wife has her OT convertible, we like convertibles, usually when side windows are up it's about the wife's hair. I remember years ago the back window zipped down, a kool feature IMO when top up and not using AC though as a young man my ragtops had the standard 2/65 AC. I Agree the Kool factor diminishes with side windows up but "Happy Wife, Happy Life" I owned a roadster for 8 years in Wisconsin, had a bolt on top and I added snap in side windows, Roadster are "Tits" but your area's weather does factor in and Wisconsin is not a Roadster state. Been There, Done That !

  13. In my part of the world, we have a high density of semi trucks. Running with the driver's window up will keep the rocks from hitting you. I've traveled many miles in a roadster with no top. It used to be my number one choice. At my age, I don't think I would want it to be my only rod. :)

I've had my ragtop 45 years. So back when I was single and dating, chicks would always want to put the top down. No matter how fantastic she was, if I did and she rolled her window up it was like "HEY, what are you doing?!! Get out!!"

When I got married, it was in the pre-nup.

Well,, I'm really sure I'd never have window up n top down=What's the point.
But the only folding top car,,I ever owned ,is my 28A Roadster ,and I've totally fail at ever getting around to making a set of side/door snap in windows for it! Thought of doing some many times, but only designed how I would do them, with out actually making any.
It's not at all that I don't like rag tops*,but more of, just never got any, other then my 28A.

  16. I knew these would come, a lot of vintage European cars are like this.

In fact most Old style chopped 39-40 Mercs are like this under the top to get the stainless frame.

In NC U either burn up or freeze to death, windows up or down. There are only 2 months for rag top weather. May and october............

We took our barely-OT convertible (1967 Impala SS) for a drive on News Years Day and I started to pull out of the driveway with the top up. My wife asked "why is the top up?"...I said "it is cold"...she said "it is stupid to drive a convertible with the top up"..... Heater on and jacket on, we take off. We drove down by the beach. We saw a bunch of others classics driving around. Every time we saw a convertible driving with the top up that day, my wife would say "They're Stupid!!" .....Lol.

I'm with you...no side windows up...and when I see those OT cars that also have a factory windscreen
between the bucket seats to ward off the fresh, outside moving air, I wonder why they have a
    convertible....buy a sunroof car...

I don't think we've ever driven our Falcon with the top down and widows up. We've only driven it three times with the top up if I recall right, that because of rain. Rain is different than drizzle, drizzle seems to blow right over us, hardly worth pulling over to mess with the top, maybe the back seat gets a little damp, oh horrors! :)

There's a difference between driving with the windows up for passenger comfort, which is completely understandable, and parking/displaying with the windows up, which just looks bad.

Lowrider/hopper/3 wheeler symbol for something I’ll bet.

  27. I’ve had, I think, 7 convertibles and the wife has had 3. I’ve had the a/c or the heat on but never had the windows up. If they weren’t daily drivers the top would stay down in the garage( if possible) i always said too down was the natural state, the top only went up in extreme weather:D

Danny - you touched one of my pet peeves!
'Ol Nick would have looked cooler with the 1/4 window ''rudder'' down.

Had a 58 Corvette for a year or so after high school, got lucky on a trade. Had my dads old 61 bug, a friend at San Bernardino Racing was going to sell and buy a bug to trade for a road runner and we swapped instead.........any way it only had a hard top and it spent it's time on the patio out back. Had a cool split tonneau cover and only one girl road in it with a window rolled up, only once.
