I know this movie's been out for a while (The World's Fastest Indian) but my mom, not having a clue that the World of Speed is all the buzz this time of year, guaranteed that I would enjoy it. Boy was she right! That movie is motivational as all hell. It's out on DVD so if you haven't seen it and need a kick in the *** to get motivated check it out.
there was a man who had dedication. also good primer for non car people who think hot rods are only what boyd builds. like being able to use the movie as a reference to all my friends who have no clue what I'm building.
That point was brought home to me this summer when my sister and her family (city folks) dropped by for a few days. When I was showing them my F-1, which at the time was maybe 90%, their only comment was, "there's no seat". Fer christ's sake, a couple months earlier there was no engine or fenders! The average person just doesn't have a clue what building is about.
Awesome movie. Went out and bought it the first night I rented it. You should check out "Madison" about the Allison powered hydroplane too. Slightly older movie, but you can feel the p***ion.
Yeah most people think you build a car in like ten days. Friends ask me stuff like so where do you order the kit from? I'll have to check out Madison, sounds cool. Don't know if y'all seen "Tucker" by Francis Ford Coppola--I think that's who did it. Was made in the early 90's. Another good car movie about the little guy trying to build his dream.
Madison is a good movie I watched it the other day. I thought it was great where they got the replacement engine for the boat. I had my ol man watch the worlds fastest indian he thought it was awesome. Great movie.
That's one of my favorites. Haven't seen "The Indian" yet, but I've been hearin all about it....now I gotta go find it...
Right now Speed TV is filming a feature on motorcycle racing at Bonneville. Based on the little bit of it they showed on this week's edition of Wind Tunnel, it's going to be superb. Dave Despain said when it's ready, they will be broadcasting it several times. Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
It is a great movie. I've lost count how many times I've watched it. Seems like everytime I watch it I catch something else. It is very inspirational. It helped me "cope" and gave me a fix of Bonneville after I missed going because of my accident. I give it two thumbs up for sure!
Yeah it's said a lot in parts of the UK. My favorite is "and robert is your mother's brother" just as an off variation of "and bob's your uncle!" You can find definitions for it on urbandictionary.com but on other sites there are so many arguments about it, who knows how it started. Suppose that's like asking who started saying the word "Cool!" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bob's+your+uncle Basically just the same as saying "and there ya go!" or "simple as that!" But "Bob's your Uncle?" I'm still curious how it got started. There was a thread back when the DVD first came out. That's the thread that made me get it and watch it. I loved the hell out of it. Awesome movie. Far from boring
Lots of others expressed the same wish. But we have to keep in mind the story was about Burt Munro. Even the ***le of the movie was debated. Now days not a lot of young'ens know what an "Indian" is; either two legged or two wheeled!!
According to word-detective.com, "Bob's your uncle" is a way of saying "you're all set" or "you've got it made." It's a catch phrase dating back to 1887, when British Prime Minister Robert Cecil (a.k.a. Lord Salisbury) decided to appoint a certain Arthur Balfour to the prestigious and sensitive post of Chief Secretary for Ireland. Not lost on the British public was the fact that Lord Salisbury just happened to be better known to Arthur Balfour as "Uncle Bob." In the resulting furor over what was seen as an act of blatant nepotism, "Bob's your uncle" became a popular sarcastic comment applied to any situation where the outcome was preordained by favoritism. As the scandal faded in public memory, the phrase lost its edge and became just a synonym for "no problem."
I saw it - great movie - then it was gone. Just as fast as it came. I would watch it again but it is not playing anywhere. Too bad. love his formula for pistons - one part chevy, two parts ford........
Yeah, it was sort of "spotty" as to where it was being shown. It stayed around here for over a month. BUT, you can get it on a DVD! (and watch it all you want!!)
there is a collectors edition or similar DVD if you are going to buy try to track this down it has the original Doco that Roger Donaldson did with Burt back in 73/4 haven't seen that bit yet myself but it would be worth it.
You guys know he didn' t actually hit 200 mph right? In the real world it was like 183, still an unbroken record. Hollywood just has to f with everything. I got the collector edition because my wife loves me.
awesome and inspirational to say the least....got it on dvd...as a matter of fact my ol' lady wanted to see it last night...one of those that never gets old
I've seen it 3x now!Great flick-my wife doesn't get it though."what are those metal tkings on the shelf? Why doesn't he just buy some?"-I think unless you s****ed your knuckles, leaked some blood and taken all your empties back just to save enough for that one last piece you need,it's hard to appreciate the effort Burt went through-makes a guy want to grow a lemon tree!
It's still around, one of my friends said she saw it at Best Buy here in Green Bay a week or two back. Even though it wasn't a major release, it has only been out on DVD for 2-3 months so you should be able to track it down locally. I never saw it in the theater, it was here for a week then disappeared. My first viewing was on a 23" console TV of 1983 vintage, I've recently upgraded to a projection HDTV and surround sound so I'll have to pop it in again....
