So as of right now I'm working way above my comfort level so, I think I'm going to try to find someone that has some experience with these motors and have them look at it.
So does anyone in Iowa or Missouri want to take on this thing?
    Waiting patiently........ lol

I was just typing up a post to ask for pictures...that helps a lot!

The distributor should work just fine with points. There's no need for electronic ignition. That's a Delco distributor, the same type that was used on Chevy sixes from the early 60s to mid 70s, it's easy to get parts for it.

Seems you're stacking new problems onto old problems, without figuring out what the old problem was, first. If I were working on it, I'd put the original parts back in, and try to get it running again. But first look at the points, and see if they're pitted badly, replace them if they are, and then adjust them or the new ones to the proper gap. If it still has trouble, replace the condenser.

But with the problems starting when you were messing with the gas gauge wiring, beware that there could be something else going on, too...

These cars are really simple, but you have to take some time to understand how they work, and how to work on them.

You know I'm sure it's something really simple but I'm just not seeing it.
I think I'll put I'll the old stuff back in and go from there.
Still looking for someone else to look at it though.

    Well guys and gals,
I finally got the old Rambler back on the road!
No matter what I tried I just couldn't figure it out, so I tooki loaded it up on the trailer and hauled it to a shop.
Diggs hotrod shop not to far from me. After trying everything twice, he was in the process of putting a new condenser on and noticed that one of the screws that hold the points and condenser on was loose.
He tried to tighten it and it wouldn't.
Come to find out, it was just a tad to long and was grounding its self off and causing it to not get spark....
Not sure why it started acting up now after two years ..
Anyway he said it nearly had him stumped!
So she runs like a top now. Was a little pricey but sometimes you just have to pony up some cash.
    Anyway I'm pretty happy nonetheless!

Well it seems my other thread, WTF just happened, got deleted.
Not a real surprise cause it was off topic but, I just wanted to let anyone that's interested that after $240 bucks at autozone, I got my truck back on the road.
Took someone's advice and installed two ground wires.
One to the frame and, one to the original location on the alt bracket.
