Hi there- considering getting a seat and guide machine. Saw this online for under 3k with tons of tooling for just under $3k - I mostly do stock jobs for marine engines - i love my VN 900 boring bar.. this could be a nice addition to get jobs done in house.. thoughts?
I never owned one but did do a lot of research when I was looking to buy one and there great for installing guides and seats as the name implies. But if your looking to cut seats with the single cutters I was told that they weren’t ridged enough to make a clean cut. This was also before the Neway cutters were popular so it might be adaptable to that. And given that these days I use my Bridgeport to install seats I would love to have that machine as it would be a lot faster. And that price seems reasonable.
I had one in my shop for a few years... mainly used it for guides and for installing seats. Mine came with a pretty crude valve seat cutter also but it never cut cleanly. I cant recommend one of these
Also looking at this manual cutter - van norman inserto.. does all the way up to 3 inch and is complete- I like simple basic tools for simple jobs.. I have a bunch of neway cutters but they always seem to cut slightly larger on one side of the seat- I have the expanding pilots which do center very well-
