I got a 51 lincoln in the shop know that I am doing a chop and some other stuff to. I started to dis***emble it and put the parts in storage. This car had factory power (hydraulic) windows and seats. All the stuff is there and in great shape. Pritty crazy set up. Any one ever seen this type of set up used on any other 50's-60's customs. The owner is re-using any of it. Debating wether I should toss it on ebay or keep it. Any Ideas?
I chopped a couple of 51 Buicks with juice windows. Them things work better than any..........OLDBEET
Definately was fun dis***embling all the hydraulic lines and junk. I was suprised to see that the seat was juice powered. Switch was located under the drivers side of the bench. I guess if the p***enger was bumming if they were a foot taller than the driver.
I think they worked on brake fluid, and when they start to leak, and they will, it will eat the paint off and it can rust out the bottom of the doors. My friend patched up his merc and converted to electric.
Just bought a 47 Lincoln coupe that has juice windows. Don't know anything about them, but I'm sure there will be some lessons learned.
Back in the 60's a buddy had a 33 Plymouth convertible with an Olds in it. It was an old hot rod then. It had hydraulic windows and seat from something in the 40's-50's. The whole hydraulic unit was bolted behind the seat. The suicide doors made it a piece of cake. I'm sure it was 12V but I don't know how or if the pump motor was converted. We were walking around the show grounds at Hershey and spotted a pristine original being polished by the owner. My buddy says I got one of these. The snob looks up and says no you don't! This is a 1933 Plymouth CONVERIBLE. There are only 6 east of the Mississippi!...Really? Well there are 7 ***hole and mine has power windows!!
Seen 'em on a '47 Caddy. They were nice and quiet but they'd break your hand if you got it in the way.
Your friendly neighborhood forklift repair shop will have everything you'll need to fix them, if needed. Yes, in the sixties we used them to press in fiber bushings, don't let the kids get their hands caught. Originally six volt, work better and faster as twelve volt. chili
and how! some one had a pic. of a merc and called it floorless junk, the 51 cosmo i rodded looked like that one because of the brake fluid hydro windows and seat. no rockers and no floors.
My 53' Cadillac had the same setup. Besides the seat weighing about 200lbs, I had the same issue mentioned earlier, came outside one day and there was a 3" wide silver stripe on the rocker panel. Turns out the cylinder in the door let go and all the fluid leaked out and took the paint with it. Took weeks to get rid of the smell in the car after yanking everything out.
