i just started gathing parts for my build yesterday(56 f-100 brakes, $20), and im lookin at buyin a 4" drop i-beam and some 37-48 spindles. joe smith hot rods has 4" drop i-beams listed on the net for $205, anybody ever messed with these axles? also, speedway has 37-48 spindles listed with kingpins for $200. any good? i know the saying you get what you pay for, and im just making sure im not buying **** to put my front suspension together. thanks
Around here you can buy original '40 spindles for around $100. The ones from Speedway don't have two holes on the right side either. Spend some time at some swapmeets before you spend your money on catalog parts..
I got a 47 international pickup cab/doors givin to me, so i gotta go get that and if its in bad shape(supposed to be in great shape), ill be lookin for a new body. its gotta be done within like 4-5 months, and as cheap as possible. i have no car, driving my dads car right now, but soon i wont be able to drive it. i also want to get this thing together bofore my grandpa dies, so he can go for a ride in a traditional hot rod like he built when he was a kid. i know what way i want to go with this project, for the most part. right now i am just starting to gather parts. the f-100 brake parts were the first. i had a slant-6/3spd givin to me also, but i wasnt fast enough to get to that one. i do have a 75 ih pickup with a 392, isky cam and headers, and a tf727, so if i cant get a motor, i figure that one will push the project around damn good. it also has a dana 60 rear with 3.54, 5 on 5.5 pattern, so it would be a great donor truck. what do yall t hink of a 392 ih mill for a powerplant?
