Projects DB/Mopar Roadster Build or... Hodgepodge Dodge

So, remove the section of the body between both rear doors.
Then move the rear of the car to just behind the back end of the front doors.
Then add your turtle deck behind the back of the body.
Then cut as much out of the frame and the running boards as needed, to put the rear axle where you think it should be with your roadster body.

The photo shop guys would need a straight side shot of the car to be able to move the parts where they need to be to give you a picture of what it might look like.

The next cheap way to get an image is to take a good side shot of the car, and make a lot of copies of that picture. Then take a pair of scissors and start cutting the pictures up and tape them together.

Its really easy, until you have to actually do it...

Then I'll start cutting. But only my arts and crafts bit with the scale cardboard cutouts of the major components.

Then look at it, think about it, live with it, sleep on it, think about it some more.

THEN cut the metal.

It's only metal. Unlike wood, if you cut it too short, you can weld it back together and make it longer.

There is a HAMB member in your neck of the woods that you should contact for some pointer. He made his first roadster using ab upside down field find 30s or 40s truck cab. A great metal man and engineer. Ask him how he did it, That might save you alot of work. Maybe a '39 - '47ish Dodge would work.

Busy with chores and stuff.
But I've been measuring measuring measuring. My mind is filled with mismatching dimensions and how I might make everything match.

The splash aprons do a good job of obscuring the fact, but you can still see that the frame is pretty wide relative to the body, especially at the cowl. Same scenario with the 1929 Chrysler cowl. Could very well live with it and just enjoy that aspect of its persona. But it would be almost no more difficult to narrow the frame along with the other modifications likely to be made... lengthening the wheelbase, repositioning the rear rails, some boxing and an X-member.

 

I inherited a vintage Erector Set from my uncle when I was a kid.

Got the adult-sized version now.

 

Think of it this way. You have the full scope and opportunity to alter and modify everything as required to piece it together. You are not constrained with the need to conform to a make/model direction. You have the freedom to create a truly unique, one-off hot rod. Using this mindset should actually make things easier........

The beauty is that I have full control and I'm not constrained by a particular formula.

I designed machine tools for most of my life. One important thing I learned was that things basically design themselves. The details will vary, but mostly, the designer is simply illustrating what the thing wants to be and needs to be.

So even I'm just kind of going along for the ride here. I mean, I have a pretty good idea of what it's going to look like and how I'm going to handle some of the challenges... but not exactly.

As we get deeper into this, the vision will become clearer!
