This is a stupid question but. I've read all the posts on the F1 front brakes and using the 1980 Bronco rear drums, but I am unsure of what brake shoes to use. Do I use the 80 Bronco rear shoes?
Sorry I can’t help, but this sounds interesting. I’ll keep an eye on this thread (I have a ‘60 F100).

a Raybestos 228PG or the equivalent. As Nobby showed they are a very common shoe that was used in a lot of vehicles. Those are organic but your local parts house you deal with all the time may have some different grades if you want metallic. The Bronco drums are just the ones that fit without jacking around doing modificatons to get them to fit.
The bronco rear drums are not finned , does this matter also will these brake shoes will work with the F1 backing plates and 66 self adjusting brake hardware ? thanks
Ok first off thanks for the help. So I got shoes from Napa that cross matched to the raybestos 228pg. This set of pads are all the same length of friction material. Is it ok to use these with the 66 self adjusters ?
I did the conversion on my Model A, 48-52 hubs and backing plates, all the internal brake parts are from say a 61 F100 (Shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware...), it all works with the bronco drums.
My hubs are 42 -47. It’s just that most shoes the friction material is longer on one side. The shoes I got are the shorter of the two. Friction material only.
The self adjuster kit for the 66 with 11 inch brakes should work fine. I think that has been the go to setup for a long time. Ford self adusters are pretty simple too. Normally the "primary" = Front shoe is the shorter shoe or the one with less friction material. That doesn't mean that all sets do have longer and shorter lining though. You might check if the lining is a different color or marked primary/secondary on the side of the shoe. If not and they are the exact same length it isn't a worry. Still you have to remember to adjust the brakes correctly even with the self adusters. I have had more than one person show up where I worked on a Monday with the "I replaced my brakes on Saturday and now they don't work right" having the only issue be that they didn't adjust the brakes right or didn't adjust them at all.
I can't speak of the shoes you have; but I have seen that some manufacturers are just providing all long linings; probably a cost thing. I guess I would get some with short and long linings like Bendix designed them. @nobby take a look under a '61 or so Lincoln. 11" finned aluminum drums.
'48-'56. If they are stamped KH with Ford script instead of Bendix they are near the newer end of the range those plates were used.
Would that be considered f100? I measured my hubs and they look to be f100. I’m having a problem getting the drums right. I can’t find drums that have the correct center bore.
Backing plates are the same across F-1 & F-100. F-100 hubs measure about 2-1/4" tall and drums listed for F-100 fron '53 up to about '62 are correct and pretty common. (top picture) F-1 hubs measure about 2-3/4" tall and 1980 Bronco rear drums fit. (lower picture) The center register holes are different; but the correct drums fit the register of the corresponding hubs. What problems are you finding with your stuff.
Thanks for getting back with me. So I believe I have f100 hubs, when I look for drums the f 100 front shoes center hole is 3.570, my hub measures at 3.150. Do you still recommend the f100 drums. Or can modify to fit bronco drums with a .500 spacer and longer studs? I would also need to turn down the hub center flange to 2.880.
F-100 drums should have a center hole that matches your hub @ about 3.150. I usually get Raybestos 2600R drums from RockAuto lately; since AutoZone no longer likes to ship Duralast drums to their stores. If you are reading drum specs on a web sight; they are not always accurate.
Rich thanks for the help, I just want to be sure ,the 2600r drums will work with the f100 hubs correct?
Well finally! Thanks to Rich B and everyone else I got my front brakes sorted out. The only issue I had was finding the raybestos 2600 r drums. Rock auto was out. Cross referenced number at Napa is 440-1070. Now on to the rears
