    Yeah, it was.

Because of the Drama and being O/T in the first place.

The same will happen to this one if it goes in that direction...

He's a regular guy. Very talented, but not infallible. To be on topic, we all need to remember that changing vehicles doesn't mean we should be less cautious. Had he driven his truck the way you have to ride a bike, he might have been more wary. To whatever extent Billy lane bears any fault, I'm sure he is paying a price.

For whatever reason this accident happened, there is a lesson for all of us, regardless whether we drive a four or more wheeled vehicle or a two wheel vehicle.
There is no replacement for common sence and caution. There is no justification for any one to p*** on hills, yellow lines , or double lines.
We all see this type of carelessness and reckless driving at times.
I would rather read posts like Ryan and his new coupe than one of any person, clebrity or not involved in any acident, fatality or not.

Knowing Billy , I'm sure he was somewhat impared, that is a shame, and I really hope he wasn't, for the name it will give motorcyclist period. As far as p***ing on a double yellow, I still believe in our 'innocent until proven guilty'. Sometimes we've all done things that didn't fit the letter of the law, it's sounds way bad the way it was written, maybe it was stupidity, maybe he had a reason.

simply stated, this ****s for all involved. that said, I really, really hope Billy was not drunk-because if he was, the ***hole ****on gets pinned to his forehead for the rest of his life.-problem is, if he were not a rockstar, only he would be able to read it. since he has a certian degree of notoriety, every day, for the rest of his life, if he manages to forget what happened, someone is sure to remind him.
and if he was not drunk, and simply in the course of making a collossal mistake, he will still be reminded...every time he sees a bike.

welcome to hell on earth, friends.

If this is to off topic, please delete it with my apologies.

I saw this on another BBS. Haven't seen anything in the news about it. If what is said is true, this is totally unexcuseable. Especially for a motorcyclist. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've ridden my bike WITHOUT some idiot doing something stupid and causing me to go into ev***ive manuevers. As I'm sure any motorcycle rider will agree.

Another Florida paper says he crossed a double yellow line while trying to p*** the other two cars.

Chopper Builder Involved In Fatal Crash

    POSTED: 3:06 pm EDT September 5, 2006
    UPDATED: 6:18 pm EDT September 5, 2006

Local motorcycle shop owner Billy Lane, who has appeared on the Discovery Channel's "Biker Build-Off" and "Monster Garage," was injured in a Labor Day traffic accident that left a motorcyclist dead, according to Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

The 9 p.m. crash involving the 36-year-old Lane, the owner of the Melbourne-based Choppers Inc. and a resident of Melbourne Beach, occurred on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach near the intersection of Ballyshannon Street

Florida Highway Patrol investigators said Lane was trying to p*** two other vehicles on A1A when his southbound 2006 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a northbound 1983 Yamaha motorcycle, Florida Today reported.

The motorcyclist, identified as 56-year-old Melbourne Beach resident Gerald Morelock, was wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Lane hit the motorcycle head on, and then the pickup hit a power pole," said Kim Miller, spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

Miller said a p***enger in the pickup, identified as 22-year-old Erin Derrick of Rockledge, was also injured in the crash. Lane and Derrick were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne but their medical conditions were not immediately available Tuesday morning.

Lane, who was semi-conscious at the accident scene, is known for his work building custom-made motorcycles.

Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigators said no charges were filed, but added they were waiting on the results of blood-alcohol tests, which will be available in six to eight weeks.

Employees contacted at Lane’s chopper shop this morning would not comment.

Obviously dark with no radio or tv. It's been 85 outside tho.

  20. Not to stray too far but I love the way they seem to think they need to work the helmet aspect into any accident involveing a scooter.

Last year they had a guy up here crash and break his leg, they made a big deal about the fact that he wasn't wearing a helmet as if it would have kept him from breaking his leg.

Anyway bad news I hate to hear about another guy buying it no matter what the cause.

Morelock, 56, killed by pickup, loved music, fishing

BY JOHN A. TORRES and J.D. GALLOP
    FLORIDA TODAY

As a kid, Gerry Morelock vacationed with his family at Sebastian Inlet every Christmas.

The family traveled from their Dayton, Ohio, home to the inlet for swimming and fishing. Morelock always said he would move to the Sebastian area when he got older. Not only did his wish come true, but he also worked there as a park ranger for the past seven years.

Gerald V. Morelock’s life was cut short Sunday night when he was struck head-on by a pickup that was p***ing cars illegally on State Road A1A, police said. He was 56.

“He loved the Sebastian Inlet,” said his brother Byron, a 52-year-old financial adviser from Indialantic. “We fished there with our dad. Being able to live around there and work there was the perfect heaven for him.”

The deadly crash happened about 9 p.m. Monday south of Melbourne Beach and near Ballyshannon Street. Investigators said the impact came after Billy Lane — a custom motorcycle builder featured on Discovery Channel’s “Biker Build-Off” and “Monster Garage” — crossed a double yellow line to p*** two other vehicles.

Lane’s custom-painted black Dodge Ram pickup slammed head-on into Gerald Morelock as he rode a moped, officials said.

This was not Lane’s first road incident this year.

In June, he was arrested by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with drunken driving. Police said Lane was riding a motorcycle the wrong way on a two-lane road without a helmet. Lane refused a Breathalyzer test. The Rowan County clerk of courts confirmed that he is to appear in court on Oct. 5.

    Under investigation

Morelock, who was wearing a helmet, was killed instantly in Monday’s collision, which the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. A blood-alcohol test was conducted on Lane and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement state lab in Orlando for evaluation. Test results, part of the traffic homicide investigation, could take up to eight weeks to return, although agents are asking for the tests to be given priority.

No charges have been filed in the case.

“Just the fact that he crossed the double yellow line and hurt somebody, let alone killed him is enough. There is no doubt in my mind that if it was me or you we would be in jail,” Byron Morelock said.

However, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Kim Miller said investigators are making sure they build a strong case before filing any charges.

“Let’s say we write him a ticket for crossing the yellow line and he goes to court. He could pay a fine and that would be it. We couldn’t go back and charge him with the most serious charge in this case,” Miller said. “The goal is not to put him in jail as soon as possible. We have to prove criminal intent, that he knowingly p***ed the double line and that alcohol was involved.”

    ‘The coolest cat’

Byron Morelock described his brother as a sensitive, fun-loving man who had quit his job as a child psychologist because he hated to see children suffer.
“Gerry was just the coolest cat,” said Morelock. “He could really make you laugh.”

Byron Morelock said he was awakened when police rang his doorbell at 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“They told me he was brutally killed,” Morelock said. “I was distraught, and the police stayed with me for an hour. They ***ured me the truth would come out. I just couldn’t believe it. We were close.”

    ‘It was too late’

Marilyn Howe, a Melbourne Beach resident, said she witnessed the accident as she made her way home from a soccer function for her two children. Howe said she was in the lead car that investigators believe Lane was attempting to p***.

“It was pretty dark but still lit up. I just saw (Lane’s) headlights coming up in my rearview mirror,” Howe said. “I also noticed there was a little motorcycle coming up and then a horrific crash. It was just horrible.”

Howe said she went back to see if she could provide CPR to Morelock, whose body was sprawled on the side of the road near his moped.

“It was too late,” Howe said.

Morelock’s mother, Dolores Morelock, still resides in Dayton, along with his sister, Dawn, and her family.

“Gerry has countless loved ones here that are grieving his loss,” Dawn Morelock wrote in an e-mail. “We all are in total shock and disbelief over the tragic accident that took his life. We will never forget him.”

    Fishing and music

Morelock spent much of his free time taking his 16-year-old nephew Sean snook fishing at the inlet and playing his guitar.

“He was good at fishing, but what I’ll miss most is just seeing him and hanging out with him,” Sean Morelock said. “He knew my friends and he would talk to us and give us advice.”

While he played cl***ic rock tunes a few times at the Sebastian Beach Inn, Morelock loved playing for those he loved. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, Morelock would take his guitar over to his brother’s home and strum all night for the family.

On Tuesday night, Byron Morelock began clearing his brother’s home.
“He was a great musician, and, man, when I had to move about 10 guitars out of his house, it really made me sad.”

    It's a ****ed up story...

    **** happens on the roads.

But here's what pisses me off (so you know this is going to be a bit of a rant)...

This will come down to a "Was He Drunk or Not" discussion when it should never even get that far.

If he did in fact cross the double yellow, he should be charged with vehicular manslaughter. If it wasn't a double yellow, then it was pretty much an accident that could happen to any of us.

THat should be the end of it.

We have laws to punish people for doing bad things in cars. What does it matter if he was drunk.

THink if the flip side... If he wasn't drunk, and still crossed the double yellow, should his punishment be less?

I guess I have been living under the same rock as Fidget, don't tell Roadstar, cuz this is the first I'm hearing about it too. Very, very sad news. My condolences to the Morelock family.

"Should it be less?" I don't think so.

But whether he was drunk or not is a big factor in this being a misdemeanor or a felony.

He'll probably get probation if he wasn't intoxicated. Look it up, negligent vehicular homicide usually results in a misdemeanor, with a very long probation period.

I can't believe a reknown motorcycle builder/rider could do something so stupid on the roads.

  28. the insurance adjuster who looked at my bike after the crash thought that the guy riding was most certainly dead. the company that picked up the bike on wednesday said the same thing. bike wrecks are never fun.
