To the bottom of the core plug holes is the standard practice.
    Moroso sells a block filler.
If the block has been machined you won't want to use it, it will make the block move a little.
    You can machine after cured.

If you don't need the cooling you can fill it up more.

I used the Moroso kit from summit. I filled mine to the drain plug holes. This block is an industrial version with the lower water holes in the timing cover, so I used a s**** cut off with some holes to prevent the filler from coming out. keep the block deck level, and get a funnel that you can trim to fit the deck holes. You want the funnel hole as large as possible to get the filler in as quickly as possible. I mixed the filler in a 5 gallon pail with a drill/ mix rod. 46AB8DC4-49B4-41D6-ADEE-E2CC3C401E91.jpeg

Some guys used to have a ******** connected while pouring the block. That way it settles in all the nooks and crannies.

Yup, and you can rent one at the local tool rental joint, for not too much.

Put the block on moving blankets, so it can move more freely, and not get checked up by the floor.

Does the block need to be hot tanked or otherwise cleaned out inside before filing? I have a hemi that has pinholes in the lower block from sitting without coolant for many years. Runs and drives and stop leak seems to take care of it but wouldn't mind a more permanent fix.

Yes you would want the block cleaned in a hot tank with caustic cleaner.

Sorry for the delay to the questions. In error, I said that I used Moroso filler. After looking at some paperwork, it was Rokblock from Compe***ion Products. 25lb pail.
The stuff flows great and there is absolutely no need with this product to use any ********y tools. It is very much like self leveling floor concrete. Very thin and no aggregate like some fillers. I left the unused mixed filler in a 5 gallon pail. it was about 1” thick and very hard and difficult to break. It also had very crisp detail of the bucket bottom, so it fills even the smallest of crevices.

Strip Clean or Redi-Strip were the best for cleaning heads and blocks but I’m guessing most are gone.
