This is a real mistory story. We have the ch***is of Scorpion V on the jig at this time. It is being rebuilt to use as a cackle car and even some short blast off the line. The mistory is that while we were at the HAMB drags someone told Dan Evans (UNCLE DANIEL) a member of our crew about having a 140" Scorpion ch***is, I think in Austin TX. This rang a bell in my head, as Bill Crosby ,the current caretaker of the Scorpion V and I found the origional wheels and center bullits. They were for sale at Bud Ogle's wrecking yard in Kenadale TX. about ten miles from Bobby Langley's home. Bud told us he found them at a Belton swap meet. That is what finley lit the light bulb. If the ch***is and wheels were in the Austin area, Mabe the body is around also. We would like to have more info and even dare to dream of finding the body so I don't have to make a new one. Your ***ignment, should you deside to accept it is to find any and all info or parts conserning this Scorpion V dragster or any other thing you may dig up and post said info under this string. This message will self distruct in due time. Thanks Dwrfab, Don Ross
can you post some pics for those of us who don't know better as to what this bad boy looked like? who knows, maybe that body was converted into a cattle trough by now...
Group: I finale got to shrink some of my pictures. The first one is how the ch***is looked when we got it. Next, the wheels that had been found in Belton TX. Then a shot of some of the new tubing and engine location. Last a shot of the body as Bobby gets out after blowing up engine at Indy. 1965. Thanks Dwrfab Don Ross
thanks Rand man: My hope with this thread is that some of the origonal parts from this historic car can be reunited with it Things like the body, and brake lever could be hanging on sombodys wall and would realy look better back on the car. Any donations of like parts will be accnolaged and the names of doners will be on a banner when the car is displayed. Thanks dwrfab
I talked to Dan Evans this week end ,he said that he thinks some one in the "Brake Down South of Dallas" knew somthing about the 140" Scorpion car that was in the Austin area some time back. We would like to find things like the main body, brake lever and gas pedal. Like I said in the first post, while the parts may look cool hanging on the wall the parts need to be back with the car. Please try to help. We would just like to trace the owners that the car went to for history sake. We know that Charley Duran had it and sold it to Paul Adams, who Bill Crosby purchased it from. The man that purchased it from Bobby Langley is George Fields, A well known Salt flat racer from west of Ft. Worth. Thanks dwrfab, Don Ross
my uncle robert c***el bought the scorpion V in 1998 at the arlington swapmeet , when we got it it had no rear wheels, the sheetmetal was black and the cage was blue metalliac , we painted the body and threw a dummy motor with a super charger , put santa in it for christmas for a couple years , sold it to charlie about 2 years ago, thats when he told us it was the scoripion, when you sand the paint on the cage there will be blue paint under neath, the ch***is had holes and junk motor mounts in it , we were going to have the ch***is redone and build the car , but never got around to it, we wish we had it back ,but we know it is in good hands now, can't wait to see it finished , thanks matt
Is the man himself (BL) involved in the re-creation of this car? He should have lots and lots of good pics and a good memory of it too.
He is involved but like e said he would love to get the original stuff. Don had to hand fabricate all the pieces to the two he has re created. It is amazing the work he has done just form some old black and white photos. So yes Mr Langley is on top of all the decisions and looks
Bobby has allowed us to scan all his photos from his albums. As we were building Scorpion 1 for our selfs and Scorpion II for The Don Garlits Museum of Dragracing, We got togeather for several discusions. He had six cars and some times things run togeather. Then he will call me after he wakes up from a knap and tell me what he figured out. I don't know if he dremes about this stuff but I do. We are due a meeting in a few datys on Scorpion V. I have a shot of the gas beadle and a rear shot of the brake lever it had a motor cycle brake lever on the hand grip to pull the chute as he applied the brakes. Also the very unoque cowl can be seen in the over the roll cage shot. Thanks dwrfab, Don Ross

Didn't know it was Mr C***el's though. He's cool and has lots of cool stuff. I actually have his son Steven's old Chevy SWB truck. Small world the internet is sometimes.
sorry for not getting back with you, robert's # is 817-925-0249, those are some pics of the dragster in front of the house, thank you, matt
