I had a front end from a left over 50 gmc 460 series stashed away in an old school bus and i decided to make something out of them. Bought a 47-48 chevy cab for 400 a 1950 cannonball hood that @Petejoe helped me get to the west coast put them together and I started cutting **** up. Got a 54 3800 chevy dually frame and made some upgrades. Then I mixed all parts together to make this. Im still undecided on power train... I really want a 270/th400 combo for it.
Pretty amazing work coming from what appears to be a crowded garage in the Vegas heat no less. 108 here today and I'm not getting much of anything done except for the ground squirrel relocation project.
Thank you...my garage is semi crowded but everything is on wheels so it's easy to get out of the way. The last time I played with it was Saturday and stopped when the temp reached 104 degress.. Nasty

I really thought converting an AD cab and fenders to a COE would be easier than that...THAT'S a lot of work. Nicely done.

I tried to sell the homemade coe last week to make room for the 1940 Diamond T but there was little interest in it. ..so we gonna keep going for a while. Decided on going mid engine mount. There will be the challenge of shifting and cooling.IDEAS?? 270gmc with a 4speed with granny speed.. I really just want to drive around town. I have 38 inches from rear of the bellhousing to the rear yoke..may have a 20" driveshaft.. There's still lots of welding and fab to do. I also reinforced the rear of the cab where I'm stuffing 10" of engine in.. I'm also going to have a flat bed. 8' of flat after the doghouse.
International coe trucks had an arrangement that went over the top of the engine and used part of the shift lever in the trans. Used some heim joints on it for articulation. But if I remember right the shift pattern was kind of backwards.
Well sir I can’t offer you any advice or tips on how to go about on this project as I’m just an amateur - but you sir from the pics and projects I’ve seen you do want have any problems once you figure it out - I feel the only thing slack about you is yer looks and I’ve never seen ya - plow on ahead
The shifter will take some creative thinking. I have seen some cable operated remote shifters...... Radiator you could put up front, run tubing under the floor back to the engine.
Solid linkage(rods and hiems) is possible, but it would be a lot of moving parts. All that geometry makes my head hurt. I built mechanical clutch linkage for my COE, it was a PIA...
Dad built a hay truck , the engine was in the middle of the truck under the bed . The shift pattern was H but it was flipped . I’ll get some pictures of the linkage and post here
there’s 2 tie rod ends on the bottom of the shifting lever to provide support and allow the lever to twist the pipe that runs back to the transmission. hope this helps You with Your shifting linkage
