I have a leed on a 1963 Olds 394 complete drive train. Supposed to have 44k on it. It does have a 4 barrel and factory chrome air cleaner. Owner claims it has high compression and 375 hp. I was curious in how much I should spend on it and what vintage speed equipment is available for these motors. Sounds like a good alternative powerplant......thanks for any and all input.

i saw a whole 63 olds 4 dr with the roof cut off it for sale at one of the road agents rockabilly rumble for sale for $400.
They are a really good motor, the look great with trip 2's.

Find out what model of Olds it came from. An 88 would be either 260 or 280 HP, A super 88 or 98 (exc Custom) would have 330 hp, and a Starfire and 98 custom would have 345 hp. All Olds 394's are high compression.

Speed parts are availible for this motor as they were popular hot rod motors in their day. Price depends on whether it's a known good runner or just a low mileage core. If it has a stick ******, it's gold.

Good motor but if it has the slim jim auto traney expect lots of trouble as thay wont take much abuse.I had a 62 red convertable many years ago and went through many tranmisions but I was hard on them.

Sounds a bit high for what the car is, but being a Starfire, it may have one of those hard to find Olds/Pontiac posis in it. Crawl under and check it out.

Also might have 3.42 or steeper rearend gears. And a Starfire will have a dual-exhaust manifold on the LH side... All worth money if in good shape.

If it's rotten, maybe you can do what I did to find out if it's a posi or not--rip the back seat out and peel up what's left of the floorpan.
