It would be a shame but developers have had their eyes on the fairgrounds for many years. To lose those shows and the drag strip would be tragic for us car people. Perhaps another venue would surface to take it's place if this really happens? I agree with Panther, it may take years?

The State of New York reimagined the NY State Fairgrounds in 2016 by tearing down the historic Syracuse Mile dirt track. Then they just paved everything. Dumb***es. The track had been harness racing since 1826 and they had been racing cars on it since 1903. So much for history stopping anything.

In that newspaper article, at the bottom it mentions that the Fairplex owes the city 6 million in back rent. When it's all said and done there won't be anything on the property automotive related, or anything relating to the history of the fair either, the land will be filled with high-end shopping, expensive restaurants, and gated communities, in other words anything that will provide the city with revenue from sales and property taxes.

Here in Nor-Cal many drag strips have disappeared. The Fremont/Baylands Drag Strip / multiple racing facility was quickly torn down for redevelopment and took many years to do anything

  7. Ya know, it’s a sad shame that money grubbing Capitalists can’t see past the dollar signs in their eyes when it comes to a piece of real estate.

I wouldn't say they are capitalists....they could shave off a 50 acre corner of the fairplex property and nobody would notice. That should get them in the green for a bit. What the deciders don't understand is that the property belongs to the PEOPLE of LA County...its not just an ***et for them to dispose of for short term gain.

Today’s politicians are focused on the here and now . What will make money now . Not what will benefit future generations.
If the renters owe that much money to the city . Maybe the question should be why wasn’t the city paid ? Mismanagement of funds ? Operating cost more than what was coming in the gate ?
Also the east and west coast don’t want gas powered cars and horses that make methane gases

Everything get moved to the California Speedway, which ****s and is really in NOT in LA County. Irwindale Speedway ****s, nobody admits to that only good for the circle track and smaller strip, but most carshows there are over-rated.

This area will end up a housing development with some stores under but not really a big-***ed shopping mall, that has also gone the way of the dinosaur.

A New reason not to go to Pomona, and I Lived IN Pomona in most of my Teens and early 20's.

  15. I would add it to the list of use to be's. Maybe that is just the way progress is. Ontario Int. Speedway was never really turned into what developer's promised. The old drag strips that have pipe and weeds on them. Maybe the problem is that the business models for what we like don't work and just fade away. I'm glad I got to go to the World Finals, the LA roadster show and some smaller events there. I realize as I age that nothing has lasted forever. I wonder what the rent per year is? Is 6 million one year or one month? :)

Politicians don’t give a s**t about anything auto related unless they get a cut. California Raceway in Fontana could work for an outside event. Anaheim Convention Center is good for an indoor show as it was for the Me*** Auction the 2 years it was here.
