My '30 A has a mix of lug nuts; opened, closed, chrome and original. The wheels are 16" 1935 Ford and I recently installed a Boling Bros. hydraulic brake kit with new hubs. I plan to buy a new set of open end lugs nuts for all 4 wheels. Standard seat angle for common 1/2 -20 lug nuts is 60 degrees. Since my wheels have hub caps, I don't need show quality nuts. Any words of caution about selecting lug nuts for my set-up?
No comment on your new lug nuts but be sure in the meantime the closed nuts are not bottoming out on the studs before the are seated. Charge Stephens
Do you have the adapter plates for wire wheels on hydraulic drums? If not, your '35 wheels will crack because they won't seat correctly. Maybe you already know that. Dave
Your answer to Dave leaves me feeling that you may not understand the problem he is describing. The wire wheels were designed to be supported at two different levels. You need an adapter to allow for the two levels. See: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/40-ford-wheels-on-a-model-a.750368/#post-8330045 The wheels will appear to fit but without the adapter the wheels will eventually crack at the lug nut holes. This is what you need. The person I got my model a didn't use these and my wheels cracked. I also needed longer studs too.
"Your answer to Dave leaves me feeling that you may not understand the problem he is describing." I used the wrong term. I am using the wire wheel supports.
Are these the lug nuts you are looking for? https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/tr...nut-amp-studs/b-1012-lug-nuts-for-plain-wheel
Yes. Just wanted to make sure that I don't miss an anomaly with the '35 wheels. However, the wheels have seen better days and my wish list includes aftermarket wires that are made for tubeless tires.
Thanks. These nuts have the same sized hex as the original Model A nuts. No need for a new lug nut socket. Many lug nuts have 3/4" hex. I carry a breaker bar, short extension and socket for better leverage when removing the nuts.
