This!!! Folks in that area need better photos and more accurate descriptions. I can't tell if the car is black/blue or ??? It appears to be just a pretty well stock 4 door but without things that can be spotted that make it distinctive from other similar 4 door 55 Chevys it is pretty well a lost cause. I'm sorry for your loss but without even knowing what engine the car has or what distinctive things to look for such as the type of tail pipe tips or a dent in a specific spot or a certain style of rear deck speaker cover or ?? we are lost. Unfortunately a lot of cars and especially tri 5 cars get stolen for the parts. I'd be keeping my ear to the ground for any word of someone in the area who is all the sudden making big progress on a 55 that needed a lot. Or who wrecked te front end of one lately.
My daughter had a nice O.T. Toyo, found it missing one Monday morning. Called police, they made a report (!) I figured it had gone south, like so many others lately... (free ride home for 'visitors'?) Glory be, Wednesday afternoon a Police woman called, Amy's car was found parked in a neighborhood adjacent. Amy and her husband went to see it, it was unlocked...Ignition was NOT damaged, she started it up with her key. Funny thing was, the car was nearly outa gas when they took it...Now it had nearly a full tank! (probably cheap regular...LOL) Stranger things....
It's a yoyo party weekend hopefully it's just a joyride with a happy reunion . Utter nightmare ! We do need a better picture looks like blu/blk or blu/dkblue ?
that ****s! I live in VA and go to a lot of cruse ins and such . will defiantly keep an eye out for your car. I hope you get it back soon and in decent shape.
Yes times change alright just 2 months ago got 8BA parts stolen through USPS in an Eastern State they even took the tracking offline so it never made it on the airplane but the empty packaging got delivered and that happened in the nicest most honest community one can live in . Imagine stealing old basically unwanted car parts what you gonna do with an 8BA cam !?? Sell it for dope !! What losers !! They all messed up ! We need kick**** discipline back in America !!
Ok im kinda lost on this, so you got the package empty but couldnt track it online? Was the package damaged like a hole in the box from handling and the cam fell out? Or was it opened and taped back shut empty? You can call your local post office and file a claim and maybe they sent it to the dead letter/package department. Hopefully thats what happened and it was packaged well and undamaged, good luck with your quest.
Hope they find your 55 sir that really ****s. Im afraid too it went for parts on someones build or for parting out online, check market place and craigslist now and in the future. They may lay low for a bit before starting to sell, but then again most of them arent too damn sharp to begin with.
,,, The claim is processed thru the Sender and a h***le in this case and here is why : Here is chain of events : 1) Two packages mailed on a Thursday 2) Checked both tracking numbers that Saturday and no such numbers exist 3) 4 days later ( Wednesday) picked up both packages from my mail service and the damageproof mailing tube was empty and it's end cap has been cut off and was missing and so was the camshaft 4). Went to my local post office we all know each other and verified it had been cut open . Postal Workers checked the tracking numbers on packages and no record of such a transaction at all . This is had smeared it from the computer yes both packages so now there is no insurance either . Finally we were able to verify that both packages made it on the plane Sunday at 11am . Now recall I had checked the tracking numbers on Saturday and so they had smeared the tracking numbers before they threw it all on the plane. So theft occured between Thursday and Saturday when still in Eastern States . The Sender told me , " I am beside myself ". He is an outstanding member of our HAMB Community so I told him , " Let's just call it a day . " So people can just throw bombs on airplanes and erase the tracking . That's why Erika and I are country travelling in a Hot Rod !
I used to leave my '55 parked with the ign. switch in the off position. One day after work I noticed the gas gauge read low. Somebody told me later they saw my girlfriend's brother cruising in it. Bad idea on Chevy's part.
I'm still hoping someone took it for a joy ride and it will be found soon sitting in a parking lot. HRP
Well I do hope that it ends up being found with no damage sitting in a lot somewhere the joy riders decided that it was time to end the fun or that it had got them close enough to where they wanted to be.
Just a little update to answer some of the questions. It did have one of my old Hamb Alliance tags stuck between the left rear window and the gl***, probably the first thing they yanked out and threw away. There wasnt anything much to distinguish it from any other any other old stock four door, except for the colors and the interior. I had put station wagon springs on the rear, but that would be a nit-picking detail that not many could spot. I remember the times in the 70's when that would be a $100 car and only good for parts. I figure it'll become parts again. Since this happened I been hearing talk of a lot of golf carts and four wheelers going missing within about ten miles of here. Those can be readily disposed of, my best hope is these same clowns got the car and wont know how to get rid of it.
Old Chevy ignition switches had both a "LOCK" and an "OFF" position. If the ignition was in the "OFF" position, the ignition switch did not require a key to start and run the car. To "LOCK" the ignition switch, you had to remember to turn the key an extra click counter-clockwise - then remove the key.
If you take the key out without turning it to the lock position you can grab the switch and start it without a key. My corvette is Like a 55 Chevy
Or if its like many Chevy's from that vintage the ignition switch tumblers wear as do the keys and one key will start a bunch of cars. A guy I was stationed with had an old worn Chevy ignition key that would start a whole bunch of older Chevy's in the barracks parking lot.
no idea, I think that when they were new that you could only get the key out in the lock position, but as things wore it was possible to take it out in any position. I could be wrong on that though
May 25th a couple in my area had their 68 Camaro stolen. Within the last week or two the local cops raided a property looking for stolen construction equipment. They found stolen construction equipment AND the missing Camaro. There is hope
I thought about it a little more. The car had a nice shiny aluminum radiator on it, that I never painted black. It was obvious through the grille, and looked kind of stupid on that car. It was there because when the original sprung a leak, I was on my way to Myrtle Beach for the Run to the Sun one year and that was just all I could find on spur of the moment. I just never got around to replacing it with an original type copper/br*** one. The distributor had been replaced with an electronic one from Langdons. The original was wore out and I couldnt keep points in it. At the time I was driving it every day and didnt want to have it down while the original was rebuilt so I ordered the electronic and just swapped it out. The battery cables were made out of welding cables instead of your standard parts store replacement stuff. None of this stuff is going to jump out at the average person just walking by, even with the hood up. Just a few minor things that would tell me it was mine.
