Customs ID these wheel covers?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RMR&C, Sep 5, 2022.

  1. I have a pair of these sombrero type covers, would like to find a couple more. Guessing 60s vintage? They are 16 inch.
    Thanks.

Now, officially, every Cadillac wheel cover regardless of YOM, is a sombrero ....

These fit a special 15" wheel that looks like a reverse offset wheel. If you've got a car with 5 on 5" pattern, and if you can find a matching set of the original 61-62 Cadillac steel wheels, these would look good on something custom, but don't expect them to fit any other steel wheel (maybe there's something else out there that these would fit on, but 99.9% of steel wheels aren't going to take these).

  6. Um....OK @302GMC you have obviously been sleeping during the "Automotive Truism" sessions here, but..... ALL SBC 327 engines are Corvette, if it ain't a Ford or Shuvellay it's a DODGE, and yes Virginia, ALL Cadillac wheel covers are Sombreros. Please make notes for future reference.

  7. I'm curious how these fit a 15 inch wheel. They won't even fit a 16?

They got 100s of tiny claws that grip the curve on the extreme OD of the rim .... designed so normal balancing weights won't work.

They go right up to the edge of the tire, no exposed rim with these on. Keep in mind, if you measure the very outside diameter of a 15" wheel, it'll be a bit over 16 inches, the wheel/tire diameter is measured on the inside of the bead lip, not the overall diameter of the wheel. I assure you, these fit a 15" wheel.

  13. Thanks to all for the ID and info. Has anyone ever tried to adapt these to different wheels?

this is what the wheel looks like, I expect most wide "reverse" type wheels will work with them...but try before buying, if possible.
