On my 31A the three steering universals have a little slack in each of the one. Should they be completely tight? The steering wheel has a sight vibration or rattle over sixty. Have no rag joint. And I'm getting toe end set this week. I'm running the half rack steering. Anyone have the same problem?

  2. They can start out life as fairly tight with little lash. But over time they can get more loosy-goosy so every case can be different. With the car parked (not running), how much slop does the steering wheel move side to side?
But the "vibration over sixty" that you are talking about is more likely wheel balance or alignment issues.

The wheel has about 3/4 inch play.

You probably have a support bearing/rod end or two in the shaft somewhere, and that might be adding a little give as well. When I was building my Model A coupe I used a single U-joint and a Double U-Joint and one support .757" rod end to get from point A to B with the angle I needed. U-joints were Borgeson and I'm pleased with the tightness of the whole system. Borgesons cost a bit more, but I think they're a little tighter than some U-Joints out there.

Maybe that's no help, but I hope it might be.
