So I'm looking for your experience/opinions on spring mounts. Which style works best? Or is it just an apples to oranges kind of thing? I'll be making my own out of 3/8 hot roll plate and DOM tubing.
I personally like the bolt on hangers from Millworks or Havlir House of Fab. Here is a link to Millworks, and Dave Havlir can be found on Instagram. Ford Model A "Spring Over" Banjo Spring Perches - Fits Ford and Lincol – Millworks Hot Rod
If your not using a banjo axle, then I like the bottom set more. I think it looks more traditional. The top set looks more modern. Strength wise, it probably doesn't matter. Just my two cents.
Guess the "style" of the mounts will depend on the width between eyes needed for your spring and the width between end flanges on your rear axle. Unless you are using some narrow aftermarket spring, the mounts in the lower picture are more suited for use with a stock A spring as long as you have room to set the eyes @ 49-1/2" apart or so.
I used the top style. I shortened them to as short as possible and let the shackle have full swing. Worked perfectly with a reverse eye A spring on a 46 axle.
Made mine like above. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/automotive-a-d-d-the-28-tudor.753531/#post-9515062
Would think ride height would dictate what would work best. Spring mounted above the axle can only get so low, mounted off the back of the axle is that much lower...
