  3. Opening day at Connecticut Drag-Way the CSP were out in force. Any car that had the slightest loud exhaust got a ticket. Yes, I got one with my 1949 Oldsmobile coupe. The CSP were merciless. They acted like the Gestapo. The drag strip was okayed by the town, but the CSP just wanted to show us who they were.

From a HAMB search this turned up by pgan (RIP) in
    reference to a 1961 magazine:
"one of the features inside that influenced me was the Rollema-Hill Wayne 12-Port GMC dragster with all the angled intake injector stacks."

He was either incredibly tall or he spaced his seat up to see over the injection! Great picture!

Mostly looked beside the injector tubes, as most of us did with tall injector stacks or blower setups.

Yes, I'm referring to being in the left lane.

If you mean seeing the X-mas tree lights, that wasn’t too bad in the forward seating position of the AWB cars. But it was often terrible in the later full fiberglass bodied funny cars with center rear most seat position (under back window) and the lower front of bodies, the front portion of roof often blocked staging lights. I always loved the short pro-tree that tracks sometimes had, as the staging lights was just above the only yellow light at about waist height.

There is no other reason I can think of to see right hand lane, except if you wanted to be sure you were still ahead of competition which you could see thru side window.

Sitting in a mid to late sixties Dragster, like a Fuller, and having a blower and Enderle, I learned the hard way, that the only way to guide the car, was watching the guard rail and centerline. With some coaching from Sammy Hale, and Gerry Steiner, it came easy.
