Hello I am seeking any information on where I can find a hole head banjo bolt for my brake line master cylinder on a 56 chevy 3200. I had to replace the rear line and maybe used too much heat to get the old fitting separated. I cannot get the new brake line fitting to thread in to the old banjo bolt. It is a 1/2 x20 thread. I have tried all local parts stores and a high pressure fluid systems company. I don’t seem to see the one I need online either. Any other options? All help is welcome Thank you
Try Aztec hydraulics in Mississauga ontario Canada . or find a machine shop that can fabricate one . if aztec can’t supply it , they can make it for you .
So the new fitting won't thread into the female thread in your old bolt? Could you just run a tap in to clean up the threads?
I think that’s what I have to do. Need to buy a tap/die set. I may also need to look at the thread on the male end. It says 1/4” inverted flare. I guess I thought all the NPT had a standard thread Hopefully tomorrow Thanks
Do not but a tap and die set, 7/16 fine thread will be 20 TPI and the tube nut you want to thread into the banjo fitting has 24 threads per inch. You can find and purchase the correct tap online, I’d try Grainger, or even Home Depot can get you one on a special order.
Ok. Question: If one is 24tpi and the other is 20tpi will they thread together? I have not had to do this before Thanks
No, that will not be compatible, you will not be able to chase the threads with any difference in TPI. Here’s a couple of examples of tap availability, they are out there just search for 7/16-24 bottoming tap, that will chase the threads deeper as it has less of a lead on the tap. If you did buy a starting tap the tip could be ground off a bit to make it a bottom tap.
Thanks. I was trying to find the female thread count. Thought it was 20 but 24 is the standard? So hard with the thread being so messed up.
