Omaha Orange was also a standard color for Chevy / GMC trucks in the 1960s, this is a link to the color chip chart for 1965 trucks. https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/pages/1965-Chevrolet-Truck.html
Middle of the 60's, socal? VW Bright Orange must've got a look in. It's quite a yellow orange, pops in the sun and still looks orange at night.
This competition orange paint job has been on my old hack, since before I first saw her back in 1968. First shot is from 1975; second shot is current. Very close hue to hugger.
I bought Competition Orange from...The Paint Guys. It is definitely not Omaha Orange. I put it on my '40, however, you can't really compare it to anything now because I put dark gold and tangerine metal flake in the clear. I posted a decent picture on the Members car only thread, but don't know how to get it to this thread. I think its somewhere around page 9. Gene.
There was 2 mach 1's sitting side by side at a car show I attended last night. The red one was very nice but the orange one was spectacular. Not sure if it was a custom blend or the factory Grabber Orange but like @anthony myrick would say "I'd drive it"!
I’m reasonably sure about the Mopar colors . Mopar Hemi Orange is almost the same as Chevy orange,,or hugger orange,,,no metallic. Mopar Vitamin C is the one with metallic in it . I could be wrong,,,,,Lord knows I’ve been wrong before,,,,lol . Tommy
A bit of trivia: The different versions (there were many over the years) of Dukes of Hazzard's "General Lee" were painted Hemi orange, Hugger orange, Flame red, and Big Bad orange. Here's their comparison:
This touch up can from 1972, matched up perfect to my mid 60’s (pre Camaro) competition orange paint job:
I thought about Hugger Orange, Poppy Red, Hemi Orange, and Competition Orange and realized it really didn't matter as long as it was a bright hot rod looking color. Settled for Kubota Orange because I can go get a rattle can from the hardware store to paint incidental pieces without getting out the spray gun.
Lots of orange variations for sure, road runner orange, gto judge orange, chevy hugger orange, 69 chevy truck orange etc etc I did find a photo of an orange 37, personally I'd like a little more red in it I think
I had this 65 ElCamino in the mid 70's, it was already painted orange when I bought it. Not available in the Chevelle line, it may have been painted in the 65 truck orange color, not sure. At the same time another local guy had a 64 painted nearly identical and people that I didn't know were always honking or waving at me.
My cousin did too, that is why he bought and restored this one. His Dad bought one new, the salt on Michigan roads did that one in and was junked years ago.
Persian orange as found on Allis Chalmers equipment is cheap at the tractor supply and farm and fleet places. Kubota orange is usually there too. You can do a $150.00 paint job including the sandpaper with these paints.
I always thought I’d paint my ‘32 5 W Calypso Red but I’m a blue kind of guy. Three of my cars are blue. But the only thing on the car that won’t be Ford are the Buick brake drums. Now you guys have got me re-thinking the Orange dilema. I saw a late forties Dodge business coupe one that was painted with orange gravel guard or bedliner intentionally getting super heavy orange peel. The car’s name was “Sunkist”.
Dad bought his new, not long after I was born. It got killed in '90 after we left the sprint car races one night. A drunk rear-ended us, flipping us though the ditch. Dad suffered a broken neck, ribs, and collar bone. I got some cuts on my head. Drunk walked away, unharmed. Ole Snubby probably had over 250k miles on it when he died.
This was a Orange from SPI Called just Brite Orange, Ya n eeded sunglass's to looks @ it outside. Cleanest Orange I'd ever shot in over 45 years of pullin the trigger
My friend , back in high school in 1968, had a ‘55 Chevy that was painted what we called “ competition “ orange. Not sure of the hue, but it was definitely orange, not red. Kinda like da34guy’s post car. It was beautiful and really stood out with it’s chrome reverse wheels! Bones
