    Need some information on transmission.
My frame is a std 32 and transmission would be a 39 Ford.
I had a Lincoln ongoing but I heard on same 1’st gear as a Ford.
    I will use a 34 driveshaft and a 36 rearaxle whit a QC.
No idea yet on gears or the QC gears but wheels will be 7.50 x 16”.
Idea is use Ardun heads but no SC so power might maybe be 250, or 275 at the most.
Era correct coupe, but not build for long trips or any kind of hard driving.
I know this old transmission is hard to use and the 39 Ford has 22 tooth so a short 1’st ( but maybe tall wheels helps )
Shifter will get long travell but someone told me about the hot rodders ide of a Lincoln transmission.
Is all has a 25 or 25 tooth or are some at 22 aswell ?
-Maybe some installed Ford parts inside ?

The question ; will shifter be shorter travell ?

I see shifter will be located some more to right ( correct ? )

Guess hard to find or expensive, but would it be a better set-up vs this combo ?

All inputs are greatly in big help.

Lincoln gears offer a different ratio. 25 or 26 tooth are your choices. Gives you longer first gears. Than the steeper Ford gears. They can be fitted into a Ford case and should be noted that they are not stronger than Ford gears.

VANPELTSALES.COM has a good break down of all the gear ratios.

Yes so far I think I got it, but is shifter lenghts ’shorter’ than a Ford ( I’mean distance in inch in car from 1 to 2 )
Is all Lincoln transmission have shifter more to right side ?
I think I’ll seen Lincoln boxes where shifter comes up at mid as on the Ford.

  4. If I interpret correctly, Early Lincolns like the 37 had same gears as Ford, Its the post war lincolns that had 25 and 26 tooth gear sets, Ford passenger 28 tooth and 29 tooth in Pick up. 44 tooth combinations.

If you’re asking about the distance of the shifter throw, the 1938 and 39 Lincoln transmissions both have a short throw shifter mechanism. The shifter housing bolts to the right hand side of the gearbox, with the stub for the lever coming out at the front top corner of the shifter housing. Any 32-39 lever could be adapted to fit to this shifter stub.

The 38-39 Lincoln transmissions used the exact same gearset as the 39 Ford transmission….late style synchronizer and the 28 tooth cluster gear running off the 16 tooth main drive gear. The later 41-48 Lincoln Zephyr gears could be fitted to the 38-39 LZ gearbox (as a complete set swapped over). As stated before, the later LZ gearset will provide a higher ratio operation for 1st and 2nd gear driving, but 3rd gear will still always be the 1:1 ratio.

So much depends on the type of driving you do plus the general topography of your location. If you were to use high ratio gears in your rear differential, the combination of high gears in the transmission plus the higher gears in the rear end would result in a car that was sluggish on taking off from a complete stop….. and excessive use of the clutch to get the vehicle moving. Tall profile tires on the rear wheels would just aggravate the problem.

Ok good to know the Lincoln use short throw.
    So a 39 box get me a short 1’th ( 22 tooth ) and non sychronized.
    Tall tires help ’some’.
Maybe the issue with slipp on the cluch not matter ( if use a 25/26 tooth ) even if I get 250 HP insted of + 100 HP ?

Any source to find such a gear box ?
If so post me - please.
