Hey there guys and gals, I recently picked up an old Crower roller cam at the Redmond Swap meet in eastern Oregon a few weeks ago. The guy gave me the springs, solid lifters, rev kit, everything to put it back into an engine.
I cannot find any specs on it anywhere, waiting for a response from Crower. All the cam says is B 5 5 2 0 on the end, it is old enough, it has the notch in the rear cam journal for oiling.
The guys said he didnt remember specs, but it was in a 283 that ran 7800rpm all day with Enderle Inj., and it sounded nasty. Looking at it, the lobes are quite large, so I bet it does sound pretty rowdy.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks, Andrew.

    Will need to be polished,
If Crower can not find Records
You can mock up with Deg wheel & get specs / close,
    All needed is one Cylinder,
    Other ways with thought .

You could use a pair calipers to measure the lobe lift and the base circle diameter and do the math..

If I cannot get specs, the plan is to send it off to Delta Cam grinders, have them check for straightness, and polish it, spec it out. I will throw on a dial gauge to get a rough idea. Just hoping someone may have an answer or an old catalog with numbers.

Can’t help with specs. But how do the lifters look?

  6. From Crower's website....

If the number on the cam starts with a letter it is a custom ground camshaft not a catalog or shelf camshaft.

I'd like to see both. Yes I would. I'm very curious as to the consistency of lift amongst the intakes, as well exhaust lobes. By all accounts they should all share the same number wouldn't you think? But do they? Let us know.

The shape of the egg would be interesting to see mapped out with a degree wheel as well. Oh yea, let's see the precious.

Looking at them, they look fine, as a roller lifter should, i can get pictures later. They use a dogbone style link.

They have all been sitting in a coffee can partially full of oil for god knows how long. Noticed a couple of the bodies have a little wear to them. All the rollers spin smooth. But could be a lot worse for a 50+ yeat old set of lifters. I think I did okay for $75 for the whole sha-bang including the valve springs, lifters, rev kit, cam, 14 push rods, 2 missing.

I jerry rigged a setup in my vise to measure the lobes with my dial gauge, measured .531int/.550exh with a 1.5 rocker ratio (.354int/.367exh before ratio).

Thinking I will send it off to Delta afterall and have them polish it, straighten/repair if needed, spec it out.

That’s the best way to see if you want put together an engine with what you have, and it’s what you want.
Not a cam expert by any means, but it
doesn’t seem to be a daily driver camshaft;)

I have a 283 and a 327 that I am deciding between for my 39 Ford P/U gasser, it will really be strip only, once in a while it will hit the street. May be the cam I want for that. The 283 is already built for 11:1 comp with pop up pistons and camel hump heads, rev 7500rpm, I can run quite a bit of cam in it.
