Thanks to Hot Rod Primer for the info on another thread, this group has a gold mine of info. Ive only made a couple pages into the sticky FAQ and I find it rather valuable. I picked up a junkyard fresh '59 Custom 300 during Covid and it needs one of everything and I'm in the process of converting it from Fred Flintstone mobile to actual floors...never done floors before so why not learn now. Eventually the 292 y-block w/ 3speed will go back in. The brakes are drum rears and disc fronts as I could not get a lead on front drums (bearings were rusted tight from sitting in the Oklahoma mud for 20+ years. Did the MOOG spring swap up front and blocks in the back and found 15" steelies and original caps. The wife said it had to be on the road by Christmas...but she didn't say which Christmas!

  2. Hey 59'er. I am about to do the Aerostar swap on 59 300. Did the stock length shocks work up front? Another question did you use a disc brake kit for your brake swap? I haven't seen too many online since Drop em and Stop em went out of business. Funny, I have a 60 F100 which I need to start on soon. My wife is telling me this year or else.

I bought replacement stock shocks before I decided to lower it, but yes they fit. It was a bear to get the lower bolts it, but over all they work. The disc brake kit I got from Speedway Motors

I plan to use a later dual pot master cyl (no booster...y-block header interference) from a disc brake Mustang. The kit includes caliper brackets but they are definitely grind to fit. I also has to swap the bearing races on the rotors but the right ones were included in the kit.

were you able to use the stock spindles or did you have to find others?

  5. Thanks for the info. I bought the disc brake kit for my F100. I don't how I missed the car kit on their site.

Yes, used stock spindles. The kit has two sizes of bearings supplied with it so just match them up!

I got mine in 2014, been driving it since 2016. It was a west coast car I picked up in Denver. The floor were close to mint, I found a 3" x 5" fibergl*** patch by the gas pedal. Picture is from 2017 when I was doing the sway bar.

Hey, welcome to the group! I have always liked 59's, have had a few in the past but don't have one now. I have found they are often overlooked by many people, when I had my 59 ranch wagon someone would ask what kind of car did I have and I would say 59 Ford wagon and I would get a funny look like "why" but when they would see the car I would get a "that looks cool" from the same guy. Mine had a big block (originally a 332) dark blue with chrome wheels and a bunch of Galaxie trim on the dash and other places along with being lowered. That car drove really well for being 50's technology, get some safe floors and drive the **** outa that thing.

I was outside a store one summer day with my car. There was an older guy eating an ice cream cone. He asks is that a '48 Ford? I told him that he knew his Fords. Just about very few people know what a '59 is.

I go through Duncan occasionally.......laughed when I saw the "Duncan Donuts" there. I don't know anything about '59s, but wanted to welcome you.
