"Luzader held official NHRA National Records in D and E/Gas several times. When NHRA expanded the OHV Altered cl***es to include D/Altered he switched the ’32 to Compe***ion Eliminator, which often paid more in prize money. In Comp, he experienced considerable success running at the then cl*** weight break of 11 pounds per CID, where the ’32 slid very comfortably into D/Altered. Running in D/Altered Harry was comfortably under the then standard National Cl*** Record for his handicap. The highlight of the ‘32’s career as a Comp racer came with a win at the 1968 NHRA Nationals, and a coveted “Wally” trophy."

I'm envious of people that were able to watch Harry and his coupe run, if I get my time machine finished (I never finish anything) it's going to be set for that time period.

    Hello,

During the old days of drag racing, there were mostly open roadsters, some coupes and of course those funny looking open frame dragsters with exposed engines. But for those that wanted to emulate what was on the streets, the coupes and sedans were the chosen models for race cars. Any modification put any street legal vehicle into a Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl*** and or labeled sometimes as Compe***ion C/S cl***es.

For those that wanted more modifications and make the vehicle a pure race car for the dragstrips only, any drastic modification moved any street car into an Altered or Modified Coupe/Sedan Cl***. It was the same for Open Roadsters in the Street Roadster Cl*** or if any modifications were made, those roadsters went into the same Altered Race Car cl***es.

So, for our choice, the 32 Ford was not the most popular street model car used for compe***ion, dragstrip only racing. Any fenderless coupes/sedans got placed into the Altered Coupe/Sedan Cl*** despite the fact that everything else was street legal. But, it was not a stock body with fenders. For us, there were the big names or those that had sponsorships versus the little guys.

This Red 1932 coupe was a pure Altered Coupe with a 25 % engine set back and center steering. It ran a Flathead and was fast enough to win in the lower alphabetical cl***es.

Since it was Red, it was at the top of our color movie taking list. It had a chopped top and that made it more appealing. The Cook and Mac Cartney Altered 1932 Coupe looked the part and did well enough to capture plenty of trophies for the Altered Cl*** designations.

I think it was 1963, at Quacker City, Salem, Ohio. Bill Jackson, who helped Harry, would follow Harry when he made a p***. He said to me " hop in and go for a ride with me". We sat behind as he staged and left. What a sight. Harry was using a "421" 1963 Pontiac wagon as a tow vehicle. I had the pleasure of driving that "32" when it was put back on the street.
