Hi Guys...Dad and I are restoring the blown he****...1934 chech sedan delivery with blown 409..ran at most northeast tracks from 1958-1962...any one have memories or pictures the would like to share...all would be graet!!!! thanks...BC
I have an eight mm movie converted to VHS that a friend of mine took at Dover in 1963 of the blown he**** launching and blasting down the 1320.It's kind of fuzzy and I have no idea how to get pix off of it.I know it was '63 because he spent some time taking a movie of a brand new Vette split window coupe. I remember seeing it run against the US Mule at Lebanon Valley in 1962. They weren't in the same cl*** .It was just time trials. I'm glad to hear it's still out there and coming back.
CruZer, Here they are at the line at Dover, N.Y. Don Noyes in the US Mule and the Blown He****. Don swapped the US Mule for a Corvette sometime after building The US Mule II. I only went to Dover once in 1961 and remember them push starting the Blown He**** as clearly as if if it happened yesterday. It's had a few owners in the last 10 years hope it gets restored.
Bill, Good luck with the Blown He**** restoration, I saw it run in 1961 and in a car show the winter of 1962. This photo is a digital shot of a Xerox copy but gives everyone an idea of what the He**** looks like. On one run at Dover the back door sprung open, management got real pissed when they found out kids were riding in the back.
When Don Noyes parked the US Mule he removed the 392 hemi from the '32 Roadster and placed it in the 1950 MG-TD and named this car The US Mule II and ran in modified Sports. Early on he ran THREE 4Barrels on a homemade intake any people that saw and heard it run say it was quite an event. Later on it got a 6-71 and fuel injection, and Don converted it to right hand drive. This was done to add his body weight to the right side to offset body roll on launches. I found the car 12 years ago and just haven't had time to start on the rebuild.
It has been a great journey so far...I have aquired lots of parts that I thought would have just dissapeared over time...The home made injector scoop...the rear wheels...orig gauges..and I hve a line on those awsome belled headers....but the history has been a blast...**** Doyle was one Of my NAPA fleet customers when I found the car...He only had 1 picture...My dad and I have scince remedied that put a nice album together for him and I(thanks Tracey...my wife)...**** has scince finished the blown he**** 3 ...a hot street car...the car was used by Outlaw to pull the mold in the middle 80's and in return **** got body #1 and built an 8 secound blown he**** 2 that he rolled at the valley in the early 90's...well I could go on and on and on....the other cool thing about this project has been the reuniting of some of the Drag an run club guys ...without thier help this project woul not be possible....thanks for the help...keep it coming if poss....BC
By the way ...We have had the car for around 4 years...It has been slow goin but it will get done someday.
I was lucky enough to see the Mule II run at Lebanon Valley on two occasions. That thing would make your inner ear vibrate when it launched and it was the wildest thing to see go down the strip. You never knew where it was going to go. My three favorite cars from that era: The Blown Hears, the MuleII and the Hellzapoppin dragster. All unpredictable wild rides !!!!!!!! Thanks for the pix and the memories.
Hello Bill, Hope your Blown He**** project is still moving along? I realize this thread was started back in '06! Here is a photo of ****ie Doyles wicked black '34 Chevy Delivery powered by a 471 GMC blown 348ci. backed up by a Hydro Stick running in the low 10's in the B and C /Gas cl***es in it's flat tow wheel and tire combo...****ie ran a auto repair / gas station out of Terryville, Connecticut known as D&E Automotive. ****ie's race car evolved over the years powered by 283ci. small and 348/409ci. big block chevy motors. Enjoy and would love to hear an Update on your build...Sincerely, John http://www.ebay.com/itm/****-Doyle-The-Blown-He****-D-E-Automotive-NHRA-drag-race-35mm-duplicate-slide-/301078412745?pt=US_Racing_Fan_Shop&hash=item4619abfdc9
I'm very proud to say that ****ey Doyle is my God father . I can remember being 4 years old back in 65 and going to the races with my old man and DOYLE and Al Oaks . The rumble of those motors scared the livin **** out of me at that age, Haha .
It was 1961 I was 10 years old and the family went to Dover Drag Strip, The Blown He**** is the only car I have a memory of from that day. They push started it, it lit and made it almost half way down, turned around lined up the light turned green and it was gone. Hope the restoration is still underway. Bob
I remember the first time I heard it run at Dover the sound was unreal. You could feel it in your chest
Sorry to say it IS. It has showed up at the reunions at Lebanon Valley where that photo was taken. I forget which thread but there is more on the restoration. Maybe Pat @1934coupe can remember.
It is not the same car but the original owner (**** Doyle) built a tribute car. The original "Blown He****" is still around and being restored by the father and son team Bill Coleman (jr. and sr.) They run a 48ish Austin 4dr. at the track and are pretty involved in NETO. Pat
I deleted the picture of the tribute car. Modern wheels are off topic.... you would think people would know better....
