Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SOCAL1, Sep 7, 2006.

  1. My wifes friend found a barn just outside of Los Angeles filled with old fords and parts..like bumpers, grills wheels, etc. He wasnt sure how he found the place.Told my wife that it's in an abandoned industrial area.He also said that the barn is about to fall down on top of everything any minute. He looked up the property and couldnt find any name or address.Grass is about 10 feet tall all the way around. No tire tracks anywhere. He said by the landscape it doesnt look like anyone has been there in years.Told my wife that it sounds to good to be true. Were gonna check it out tonight. It's about 40 mins from my house.I will give you guys an update soon.

Located the owner.Turns out the 2 36 fords and the 4 32 fords are all fiberglass bodies. He has a bunch of motors. Most are chevy and i think he said an olds.Bumpers from all types of years, and some 32 grills(steel). The gentleman is in bad health..So the place has just been sitting for a couple of years now.He does want to sell some stuff.I gave him my #.He is gonna give me a call tuesday so that i can meet him and his son there.I never did go that night to take a peek..so i dont have any pics up.I'll post some up on tuesday.I wil get alittle more info then..kinda hard to understand the guy over the phone. If he wants to sell the bodies is anyone intrested???

P.S. HEY RECARDO...I HEARD THAT YOUR CHIN HAS HIT MORE BALLS THAN BABE RUTH.

I've heard about several of these over the years, and they never panned out. Always one "heard it from a friend" away from getting to the original source. Kind of like the story of the 'Vette for cheap 'cause some guy died in it and baked in the sun for three days before he was discovered.

I hope it's true! It would be fun for one of these stories to pan out someday!

You can try to look up the owner by making a trip to the County Records office. Have the correct address in hand. Makes it kind of tough if the property has no address listed. In that case, you might use a street directory to get any address that might be listed between the addresses of the properties on either side.

Here in NE Ohio you can go online to the county web site, look up the tax maps, click on the map, which is an arial photo with property lines superimposed, spot the property you're looking for, click on it, and presto!

You have the owner's name, when they puchased it, the legal description(including addres) assessed value, lots of info, all in a matter of minutes.

Try it-assuming your source can take you there or be able to recognise the property from the arial photo.

Plan9 is right every piece of property in this country is "owned by someone." We have been down this road before with people just going on someone elses property to check something out. I can tell you now it did not go over well then and it will not go over well now. Do yourself a favor stay off the guys property until you get permission. I am sure you are a stand up guy, but like I said I have seen that kinda stuff cause a lot of grief.

I knew better than to post that, and I tried to do it without being offensive, as I certainly do not want it to come off that way. With that said; investigator or not, your quick look is trespassing. I could care less, I just saw this thread turning into what I have seen this topic turn into before. Now I am afraid I have only made things worse. Sorry for the hassle, best of luck on your thread.

Probably belongs to Isky , true story ,he has yards and old buildings chock full of stuff all over LA . I saw a picture of one of his old shops piled floor to ceiling with old cam cores and somewhere else he has a fenced yard full of 60s Corvairs, double stacked and waiting for some project he hasn't had time to start on , maybe next year .

On one hand it would be nice to see the stuff, but if the owner has it tucked away and thinks it's safe, I don't think he'd like the whole internet world knowing about it.

    Looking for dead hookers maybe?

That sounds cool. Put me in line for some '36 stuff if it pans out in the end.

A buddy of mine bought a 32 5w from a guy who has a couple places like what this sounds like. Abandoned farms out in the country. He had collected tons of stuff over the years...multiple deuces, multiple 36 3w's, 34 sedans, and more very desireable stuff. This stuff sat in and around open fields and barns. The stuff we saw had already had stuff stolen from it over the years(including deuce shells). He was mad about people just taking stuff from these places, yet they looked completely abandoned. At one place, someone took a complete 39 Deluxe coupe. They had to cut trees down to get it out, it had been sitting for so long. My buddy was the 1st to get a car from this guy (legally) in probably 25+ years. He just happened to know a friend of a friend of the guy's. Some of the stuff that's in the barn near the city where we got the 5 window has been sold, but last I knew there was still a 32 Fordoor and a 56 Chevy 2dr hdtp in the building. This is the only place the guy still goes past. The other place is about 3 hours north of where he lives, and he hasn't been there in years. He said had had as much as the "city" farm and more at that place. If I had a scanner, I'd post some photo's of the stuff we did see, and buy. We're still trying to get the 4 door, the guy let a few cars go to pay some bills, but is back to not selling anything last we heard. I'd love to find out where the other place is, but whenever we asked, all he would say is "up north". We didn't want to be pushy about a location, as the guy was in his late 60's, and was kind of ready to flake on the deuce deal with my buddy as it was...wasn't sure right until the car was loaded that he wanted to sell it.

There are lots of stashes of old stuff around still. In barns, fields and behind houses. Here are a few pics behind a house fairly close to Vegas. Several rodders know about these cars and parts in the boonies .... for the most part... no one has touched them. They may be in the boonies with no one around, but they are owned and for an honest guy that means don't touch.

BUT, there WAS a 32 sedan in the collection with the center of the passenger door cut out. I was dealing on with the owner after I tracked him down. I wanted to buy that car but it was tough dealing with him ... he Honeymooned in that car! I was getting close to owning it and the 32 just disappeared! Somebody stole it and had guts enuff to put it up on ebay!
So there are some less than honest guys out there.
    Karma will get him.

No, I will not give up the location. There is another car in there I am trying to buy.

Yeah, the property in LA is mine, anyone who wants to see a picture can give me 5 bucks, 20 bucks for the address. However, Im not selling anything cause my grandma gave me ALL THOSE Cars. and as you know I loved my grandma too much to part with even one single bolt......

    Just jokes, :)

My dad used to spray fields for a midwest chemical coop in the late 80's early 90's so he was able to go places others could not and he found tons of stashed cars all over the country, for the past five or so years we have been following up on some of them and we have bought some very unique cars and stuff, but like was said before some of the people were hard to deal with because of people ripping them off over the years.

I don't know about this guys story,

but for all you nay sayers, I am driving a couple of too good to be true stories.

My coupe bodies came from a field of about 10 a coupe bodies, and they sold for $75 a body, and a 29 roadster was $50.

We had heard about this for years, and figured it was gone or not true, even though we saw pictures. Well one day we finally we got out there, and it was true, and even better.

And my 32 frame came from a barn in town, that we all have driven past 1000's of times.
and in it was a 32 three window, and 32 pick up, and 39-40 fenders lining the rafters and rooms full of doors wall to wall, rooms full of front clips standing up wall to wall.
if you didn't see it you would not beleive it. It was so dark in there you could barley see anything.

the guys who got the 3 window had to cut down the side of the barn to get it out, there was so much stuff in there.

Luckily they left the frame, it sold for $100.
    And a 64 impala sold for $100.

Trust me you would not beleive it, unless you were there.

So good luck on this, cuz sometimes it does turn out to be true.

My 36 Chevy pick-up came out of an airplane hangar for cropdusters in Tyler,TX that was being torn down. I hope the 40 chevy next to it made it.

  28. About two years ago a guys's collection got scrapped near Middletown NY. Like 5000 cars. Back to the '30's. Some of the convertibles in there - '49 Caddy, '54 Buick, 3 '59 Pontiacs, '4 '60 Oldsmobiles, 2 '60 Chevys, a '59 Ford, '60 Buick, '58 DeSoto (we got that one), and probably more. Cars with 392s in them, one nice '57 Imperial that was complete and solid.

Cars into the '70's with big motors, old stock cars, Mustangs, supposedly a couple of Mopar muscle cars (I guess one was a Hemi car), all kinds of stuff. And you'd never know this stuff was there - it was off a state road on a back road in the middle of nowhere.

A lot of it ended up scrapped, but you could buy cars for $400 or so each, then later it got cheaper.

I always wonder if the three really solid, but bare, 55-56 Chevy tudor bodies made it out of there.

We cleaned out some good stuff from another yard this year; '57 Buick, '58 Dodge, 59 Chevy, and '60 Cadillac convertibles, still a '56 Plymouth in there, plus I bought a really rough '40 Chevy ragtop carcass that has most of the good stuff on it (doors, top bows, frame X). That place even had a '29 Franklin in it. Between me and another guy, at least 10 97 carbs scattered around, too.

We have a line now on about 30 or so cars, no newer than '34, all abandoned in the woods and they're probably going to be free for the taking.

Stuff is out there - just a matter of what you want to pay for it, beating the scrap guys to it, and how patient you want to be.

I found some stuff over the years when I was younger and dumber just wondering around in the woods with friends. The hard part is explaining how you know about some of the stuff without admitting you are trespassing. You can't.

I know where a mid-60's Dodge truck still attached to a gooseneck trailer is sitting in the woods. Pretty darn sure it was stolen and stashed there. Found a 50 Chevrolet and GMC panel delivery trucks sitting in a dry creek bed. A couple of Merc flatheads, some ancient construction equipment, an old bus and various other machinery. Wish I could go back there, but I don't care to be shot at.
