Hi Guys, Greetings from across the pond, I’m in the process of building a little 4 banger Hotrod with my son for his first car. He’s 18 and serving a mechanics apprenticeship so keen to get him started in our mad world. My problem is we need a 3.54 ring and pinion for a 1930 Model A. I can’t get one over here but as luck would have it, I’ve got a good friend visiting LA as we speak and prepared to bring one back for me in his suitcase. He’s stopping in North Hollywood. Does anyone know a stockist near there where I could get one from? I’ve only got a couple of days before he departs or we miss the boat….literally! I’ve tried emailing and ringing Early Ford Store but no answer or response yet? Thanks guys. Brett.
I seem to recall they don't answer the phone much at the Early Ford Store, but I'd think there's got to be one in the LA area... come on So-Cal guys! Help this bloke out! I'll be heading across the pond next May if you can't get one now, I can bring it in my suitcase, then drop it in the post to you once I get in country? I'll be in North Yorkshire on the east coast.

Years ago, when I was stopping in LA for a day or two and wanted an item. I booked a motel and asked if it was OK to have a item mailed to them and keep it until I arrived. They agreed and so I ordered from another part of the State, had it mailed to the motel and upon my arrival collected it and stayed there as arranged. Friends did a similar thing with a car booster seat purchase for a child to go in a rental car, no problem all worked out fine...

Good information @Mr48chev and call the store and verify, before any attempt at driving there. Hello, From a So Cal local that has been on the freeway system since it started way back then, the plan is to obviously drive when it is less crowded. So, Friday during the day you will take longer than one hour to get to the City of Orange. The I -5 is fast as it is relatively straight from Los Angeles to Orange County. But on Friday, it just seems like everyone is in a hurry and wants to get out of the big city for smaller, crowded cities South and farther South to the coastal areas. The area around the City of Orange is Disneyland/Knotts Berry Farm locations. So, Friday during normal hours is a definite no, unless you don’t care how long or what kind of traffic is there. I have made that drive from North Hollywood to just South of the City of Orange in less than an hour on one drive. While it took another additional 35 minutes during the mid day lunch hours drive from just South of the City of Orange to North Hollywood on our way out of the So Cal basin for a long road trip to Lake Isabella and several Northern California road trips. There is always an alternate plan if you mark out what and where. So, from North Hollywood, if you plan on being at C.W. Moss at the opening hour, on Friday at 8:30 am, leave North Hollywood at 5 am and drive South. It will take you much less than one hour to get to the area, prior to the rush hour fiasco. Then find a nice diner or restaurant for a leisurely breakfast until 8:30 a.m. The area near C.W. Moss is full of great restaurants and small diners. Afterall, it is in the popular Orange Circle. If you decide to go on Saturday morning, leave at the same time. There should be less traffic as those that want to get out of the city for all points South have already left on Friday. We have been on early Saturday morning leisurely road trips heading North at this time. 8:00-9:00 am. But, if a big time event is happening in any city along the way, there will be traffic. So, use the 5:00 am start anyway and have a nice leisurely breakfast and wait for the opening. Since C.W. Moss opens at 10:30 am and closes at 1pm on Saturdays, it is a short time for a Saturday, so you get there early. It would be unfortunate to get stuck in a sudden traffic jam and get locked out by lunch time. Jnaki Figuring out these driving patterns has given us an advantage and if life is slow enough, it eases the likelihood of suffering and worry. People have always criticized So Cal as a place for crazy people. It may be, but we learned to adapt our own ways without stepping on a lot of toes. So, since learning to drive as a pre teen to now, we have learned to alter our plans, to fix what needs fixing, to just move along and not be in a hurry. As an old popular commercial used to say… “Try it, you might like it.” or "the early bird gets the worm" or in this case, gears... YRMV
