Technical Cleaning Your Hands.......I found a new (for me)way

During the course of working on any project, I have a tendency to attract dirt .....and grease. Especially I tend to get my hands covered with one kind of crap or another. Bought some Goop, and it does a pretty good job but leaves my hands slick and I have to wipe it off and wash with some water......and the Goop is always in my other shop. + its not cheap.

Then there is the stuff thats orange and gritty feeling. Does a pretty good job but I just hate how it feels.

So, the other day I needed to clean my hands several times during a brake job replacing brake lines. Grabbed a spray bottle of "Simple Green" that I had near by. Sprayed my hands and it worked great. So for the last week, every time I want to quickly clean anything (other than paint) off my hands, I just spray them with Simple Green. I looked at the label and it says its bio-degradable and basically harmless unless you swallow it or get it in your eyes. You can buy a spray bottle and a gallon jug to refill it, so it will last a long time. It really does a good job, and my hands don't feel all sticky and clingy when I'm done...........they feel "fresh and rejuvinated"

 

I use a 1/2 teaspoon of white sugar and a couple of drops of dish soap. Works better then the orange stuff and does not dry out your hands. You do need water handy.

These are what I use. Keep a bucket in the shop and the truck as well. You can really scrub off grease and no water needed.

 

Next time you need to round out your summit order to get free shipping buy these. I keep them in my trailer and one in my truck besides the shop.

After years of mistreating my paws with greasy, rusty, toxic, sticky etc. stuff I found most jobs can be done with these:

 

Proctology isn’t HAMB friendly

 

Good old Lava soap use to be the go to for me.

 

Whoa. Simple green and purple power WILL eat your hands up.

Simple green is 9-9.5 on PH scale
Bleach is 11-13
LYE is 13-14

BEFORE you start working, coat your hands with goop or hand lotion, or oil. Wipe it all off.
It will get under your nails and in the pores of the skin on your hands. When you go to clean up, the grime comes off much easier.

 

I use the 5 dollar HF mechanics gloves. Took a awhile to get used to them, but now it feels funny without them.
I kept tearing the rubber gloves, so gave up on those.

Edit: a thought crossed my mind if you use rubber gloves. At work when I dress for Arc Flash. I have cotton liner gloves, the rubbber then leather protectors.
The liners sure make getting the rubber gloves off a breeze.

 

For years I've used Goop/paper towels in the garage to clean my hands and Dawn dish soap in the house utility sink with warm water. Works good for me, does not dry out my skin, and FYI, if clothes are greasy dirty , wife paints goop on pants/shirt, the wash machine cleans it out great.

 

I've found GoJo wipes take off most anything I can manage to get on my hands.

 

i like fast orange smooth and a rag.

 

When I was 15 I worked for an old mechanic, his hand cleaning solution was Clorox bleach and Tide soap. I tried it once and burned my hands. I tried all the hand protector treatments but now use the blue nitrile gloves from HF.

 

Never tried Simple Green on hands. It did however cloud the instrument gauge face on my DD
Purple Power tho, Once used to clean my tractor cab, left left my hands looking, and feeling, like ten grilled hot dogs for two and a half days
Dawn Dish Soap and hot water is my favorite.

 

I do my dishes. Works every time and no wasted action. I keep dawn in the shower also.

 

If you rub in a glycerin based hand protector before working, a simple soap & water wash works great.

 

Whatever you use think about how rough it may leave your hands.

Your significant Other may like soft hands touching them and not sandpaper hands.

 

Simple Green is used to de-grease engines. I hate "agent orange" The best I have found is WORX, the green powder, not gel version. wet hand rub vigorously & rinse. made from wood cellulose ingredients. Used to buy it from the snap-on guy

 

Making hamburger patties before you put them on the grill. Gets rid of all the stuff on your hands

 

Meatloaf for the nail’s?

 

WD 40 on them before working on a greasy job. Then gojo to do the dirty work.

A cheap bar soap is perfect to keep in the garage. Drag your nails across it before you start and no more grease under the nails.
