Check out this video I found of residential Ca. in the late 40's. It could be the colorization of the video but it looks to be a candy pink custom Merc @ 2:55 in the video.
At the 1.08 mark there looks to be a 49-50 Ford parked in a driveway. I love watching these old restored films.
Oh, wow! I didn’t mean to be a ball buster! Lol I just like pointing out the differences in different parts of the country! It’s what makes us….us! I used to travel quite a bit, both for business and pleasure and I truly enjoyed the vast differences in the four corners of the USA……and the similarities! Bones
I saw at least two vacant loots, & one home for sale. If I were a speculator, I'd say buy up those properties, & hold on to them.
This threads' ***le really speaks to me as when I was eight years old in 1962 and just discovering cars, hot rods in particular, my folks took me with them by train to visit my Aunt and Uncle in La Mesa Ca. near San Diego. The train ride was pretty cool but nothing compared to what I spotted while exploring the neighborhood, a (I think) 28/29 Ford roadster pickup, black, not sure, in my minds eye I see it as a highboy, and if I remember right it had big whitewalls. He was cruising by pretty fast but must have seen me run to the corner for one last look and turned around and came back by me and revved it up. Boy was I hooked!
Notice how you can just barely see the hills thru the smog. And that would have been considered a good day.
I remember when the garage was behind the house, some nice homes in this video for sure. I wonder where it really was????
My grand parents bought a home in Ventura after WWI for $2500, sold it in 1962 for $25,000 I went to Zillow and check the price on it today…..over a million….for a hundred year old house! Crazy! Bones
It would be neat to make a video of a car traveling that same route today and then play them side by side.
So cool. You tube comments provide timeline details of locations; first part is Toluca Lake area adjacent to Burbank. My Daughter lives in Burbank on the edge of Toluca Lake. Always has been and very much still is a really nice area (Bob Hope estate, etc.). Second part is Sherman Oaks.
