Try applying a coat of clear matte or satin water based sealer to the wood before you do the sketches. It should stop the bleed problem. Hope this helps. Test it first.

Wish I could draw like you........

Built this on the waterjet at work, then painted it and had a young and upcoming pinstriper lay some lines on it this afternoon so we can give it away tomorrow.

    Happy Friday Hoodlums...

Thoughts to those that have got socked by mother natures wrath on both sides of the divide...she can be a major unforgiving force without a doubt...hard to imagine the hell that must have been...

  12. Yep, my bad, apologies. I just now came back ( a lil' late) to delete- you beat me to it.
They were two sweet buckets. Both built by the same dude obviously. Only the wheels distracted on the Chevy- powered one.

  17. yeah, those coasters are made from a soft wood, so the ink tends to bleed into it.
my "woodart" boards are yellow pine mostly which is harder wood, ink bleeding is not a problem with them.

    Hey R,

I used to print photos onto woods of all kinds. It was a solution that one could buy and coat the raw wood. At first, it was cool and unusual. Then the wood started to discolor. Even pine soaked up the solution and discolored. So, I started treating all of the wood with matte finish varnish. It sealed the wood and did not let anything bleed into it. The matte finish made the wood still look like wood and not a bar top finish.

The photos were black and white and it was unusual as an old hot rod was printed on a piece of wood. Then for my wife, I experimented and printed a photo of her driving the 327 Ford Sedan Delivery on a smooth rock we picked up from our coastal beach walks back then. It was an interesting paperweight.

Your art could easily be drawn on treated wood to keep the ink from running. If I had your art drawing skills, my granddaughter could sell the "rocks" (or wood) for her extra income for future college expenses. HA! Experiment with the different types of matte finish coatings until you find something you like. YRMV
