From what I understand about those, you will burn it up FAST if you don't set it up properly.

you need to depress the cable adjuster release right up by the cable end, while holding it down.....push the cable adjuster that sticks out right at the cable end (it looks like a little bullet end, black plastic) all the way toward the bracket/lock mechanism (toward the firewall). Then release the lock. Then if you floor the throttle at the gas pedal it should ratchet out the adjuster to the proper dimension

All these things are great ways to adjust IF you know you have the correct carb linkage for the 700 ******. If you are just running any old carb and bolting it up you will never get the thing to shift right or last long. You need a carb or throttle body off of a vehicle originally equipped with a 700. Or you need to find a way to adjust the distance of the stud the cable attaches to from the center of the throttle shaft. This can be done by slotting the hole the stud attaches to and adjusting it closer/farther from the carb shaft until you get the correct setting. Basically the cable needs a slight amount of tension on it at idle and needs to be pulled completely out at exactly WOT. Like someone said above, these ******s wont live long with incorrect settings. Been here a few times with 700 GM and AOD fords and it can be a minor headache. let me know if you need more info.

I second that! Incorrect T.V. adj. will create a lot of shift concerns and lrad to lead to failure in a hurry.

    Check bowtie overdrives.

Get thier T.V cable, carb plate, and adjuster. I use it and it's quality ****.

They have all the proper **** to get a 700r workin' right and they can answer any questions you got. You need to get a guage and check the pressure. To the best of my knowledge thats the ONLY way to properly adjust the T.V cable on a 700r. When you adjust the T.V. you let the car idle and pull the cable slider out until the needle on the gauge just starts to increase. Then lock the slider for the T.V down in that spot. If you don't have the T.V adjusted properly it will drive like **** and wont last very long.

I just finished hooking one up to Rochester 4Jet in my caddy. You can use any kind of carb as long as the geometry is correct. This is a brief description of what it takes. I found this on the web. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link here shortly. As stated above, you want all of the slack out of the cable at idle. Locate the pivot point on the throttle bellcrank at the carb. Draw a line down through it. This is 0 degree reference. At a radius of 1.094 to 1.125" from the pivot, measure and mark a 23 degree angle. On my carb, because of the way the throttle opens, this was below and aft of the pivot. This is where you will attach the cable end to the bellcrank. This insures that when the throttle is 1/4 open, the TV cable attach point is perpendicular to the pivot point. Another critical step is locating the cable mount bracket. To figure out where to put this, measure the amount of travel of your cable, and add 3/16". This is how far the perpendicular face of the bracket needs to be from the cable end on the bellcrank at WOT. It sounds confusing, but its not that bad. The link I found had some pictures so maybe that will make more sense. Hope that helps, I'm no ****** expert but it works for me.

Stating that you even tried it with the TV cable off leds me to believe you never have checked the geometry of the hook up point to the carb bellcrank, but are just hoping that messing with it will get it right. The "purple sage" link is to my site and I show how to very easily and quickly modify the bell crank if needed and then how to do the final adjustment to the TV cable. You could do it to any 200 or 700 in less than an hour with the carb on the vehicle. Way less time than going and putting in your 350 transmission.

One other thing. You don't mention your present rear gear, but if it is say a 2.50 to 2.73 you might not get it to shift into overdrive until 60 to 70 even if you do have everything right.

So how much do you want for that piece of sh** 700? I love to buy ones others give up on.

Hey 1FATGMC, thanks for the info on your site. I tried to figure it out for 2 solid 12 hour days trying to get my ccar to the drags. Had to give up at 9:00 that thursday night and drive a late model 70 buick (damned new cars!). Got back from the drags and ran across your site. Sketched out my new bellcrank, glued it to a piece of metal. Fabbed up a new bracket. Put it all on and it worked the first try. Awesome info. Thanks man.

I had no idea the geometry was so important. Im going to fix mine right away! Thanks for the info guys. I was just getting a little frustrated last night with the whole deal.

without seeing what your working with, here is what works for me....at full throttle the cable should be pulled all the way out..so open the throttle to full position, then pull the TV cable tight and tighten it down...works for me every time....but if it doesnt shift correctly..be very easy with it cause you will burn the clutch packs
