I'm looking for someone who has a cnc plasma table that would be willing to cut some small patterns out for me.

I'm building my own custom front shock and headlight stands out of 3/16" steel and it would be nice to find someone who can take my pattern and cut out 4 pieces for me.

If your interested or know someone who is please let me know. I'm willing to pay for the service.

If need be I can get some 3/16 steel strap and send it along with a wood pattern I made.

    Thanks gents !!

Might try Sid Drapal (405)-416-3080. His daughter cuts out all kinds of parts on a plasma table there at Nostalgia Sid’s Dropped Axles.

    Appreciate the leads!

1 question, I have no experience with any cad style programs, I'm old skool so what I have is a wooden template, is it possible to take one of the programs and just scan my wood pattern on a scanner and drop it into a cad style program?

I'd call your vendor with that question.
Some might be prefer with a cardboard template cut from a cereal box.

Yea, I would figure out who is doing it and what they need. I do that sort of thing at work, but I would have to make a CAD model of the part based off your wood template to be able to cut the part out on a plasma, laser, or waterjet. Some folks might have a scanner, but we are actually a $500M or so a year company and don’t, so most small shops likely don’t either.

Hortons welders series has a ton of tabs and brackets for less than the cost of a bottle of decent beer. Paul Horton's Welder Series (ecwid.com)
I've bought several tabs and brackets from them and they are nicely done.

Yup, good 3D scanners are spendy.

I am sure that there is someone out there who can turn these into a CAD file for him.

Or do it the traditional way, zizz wheel and grinder. Takes longer, but cheaper...

I'm with BamaMav on this... plasma cutting leaves a damn hard edge to clean up (and no matter how good a cut it makes, it still needs cleaning up). I made a bunch of stuff by laying out ****m, scribing a line, and working back to that line. Messy, noisy, but cheap and "right here right now".

Unless you're wanting multiple copies of the same thing, its not time effective to make the file and cut for onesies.
3/16 is thick enough that a good guy with a torch can lay it out and cut it , leaving you to dress it up. Thin enough to freehand plasma cut it too. You could be done and have it on the car before you could get it shipped. Good Luck.

Waterjet and laser don't have the issues that plasma cutting can have.

Laser is awesome, clean and fast. Water jet is also clean and from my experience it’s slower but also very good.

If you are at all concerned with the heat effects on the material being cut water jet is the choice.

They’re both great cutting methods with different advantages.

You can also cut non-metallic materials

How about a pic of the pattern? I’m curious what’s going on with it!

Here's the pattern, I still need to cut the center holes out where the x's are.

Getting married Friday so I've been too busy to get them cut out.

Congratulations! It's an ins***ution I can heartily recommend: the past 12 years have been the happiest of my life.

The cutting oughtn't to be a problem. I have access to laser, waterjet, CNC plasma, etc. etc. etc. in a tourist city in Africa, so you should have all that stuff nearby. If you have trouble finding someone, look for people who do architectural stuff.

It sounds like your problem is the dxf file, though. Take your pattern to a print/photocopy place and have them do a 2D scan on a flat-bed scanner. Most photocopiers have them built in these days. Then e-mail me the output file (pdf or jpg, doesn't matter) along with one critical dimension (preferably the longest, e.g. the total height of the pattern) so I can fix the scale, and I'll do your dxf in 15 minutes — provided I've got 15 minutes available immediately. PM me.

That's how we did my rear shock mounts (and other pieces). Freehand plasma cut and clean it up.

Thank you guys for the congratulations! I do appreciate it.

I need 4 but would like 8 so I can make 2 sets.

Yes I could rough cut them out and hand finish them but with that many I'd rather have them machine cut so that they similar dimensions. Trying to make 4 identical much less 8 would be a pain and time consuming.

And the biggest reason? Actually 2, 1- I've hand built everything, the frame itself, every suspension bracket, body mounts, dash brackets, door lock ***emblies, custom engine mounts, etc and on and on and honestly it'd be nice just to have something like this done to be able to put something together without spending hours to get there. Also as they are the headlight and shock mounts out in front of the entire car I want them to look nice and concentric.

@gimpyshotrods has reached out to me and hopefully he can help me here. And if not I still appreciate him reaching out to me.

And thank you to everyone else who has tried to help me out in this venture!

I have a CNC plasma in the garage. Waiting on a few consumables to be able to cut, but what you're showing there should be a breeze to draft/cut. Pretty simple stuff. Looks like a 12x12 piece of plate would yield 2 sets of 4.

You might grab a sheet of grid paper and trace the shape onto it. That would make it pretty simple to draft.

I've got him going on that. I will see if I can get him to *.DXF.

I can write the file and convert to DFX, just need some dimensions to work with, Including material, prob less than $10 each and a 6 day turnaround
