I am trying to attempt to install a 350 rocket th 400 combo on a 1948 oldsmobile fast back . Any help with engine and transmission mounts would be appreciated.
The problem I see so far is there is only 2 bolt holes in block for a mount , I am sure to mount to frame is going to have to be made
48 olds 66 coupe here 350/350 olds from72 cutlass. 400 turbo may be to long for cross frame ,I have just enough room to remove the turbo 350. You will have to fab frame mounts for motor , use stock rubber mounts, frame is c channel . Also have to make trans cross member. Don't cut out the cross frame that will weaken the frame. Don't mount motor too low pulley will be real close to cross member . Have to make metal tube lower hose if using stock style radiator . Have never found lower hose even close to fitting. Make a fan shroud use a clutch fan. Stock recored radiator, mine never over heats. It is real tight on driver side of motor , steering box ,exhaust ,starter , brake master all right there. I used stock exhaust manifold ,pipe had enough room. Ran it this way for 10 years. Later built fender well headers and moved master back under seat area. Remove gas tank and have a3/8 line put in place of the 5/16 line or you will have fuel starvation at top of second gear. Battery can't be in stock location. Mine is behind grill up front. When I think of more I will get back to you
Yeah cross over exhaust worked fine . But I had to have duals .haha No room for driver exhaust for duals with stock manifold, and and brake master. Unless you go outside the frame. Good turbo 350 uses less power than 400 Looking for bop pattern 200 r4 ,gotta beef it up but it is overdrive. Rear axel I have is out of 71 vista cruiser ,of course all mounts have to be changed over. 342 gears running 255 tires on15 rims Runs out of cam about 120 mph. Don't tell my wife. 1/8 mile 10.27 at 73 mph.
Stock rear axel in mine was 411 gear was real fast for old pile of parts. But pinion bearings went sour so I changed axel to 71 vista cruiser ,all mounts need to be crossed over. And new driveshaft made.now 342 gear so cruising at 65-70 is no sweat ,I think car 's sweet spot is 65 mph. Brake master corvette stile for drum /drum brakes7in booster from s10 custom mount with remoute fill. 87 camero steering box and pitman arm center link and idler arm all custom mounted power steering pump from 72 olds . Sway bar from 82 cutlass custom cups on lower a arm. Drives as tight as late model. Surprises late model camero kids when I pass them going up river hill.
Under dash is just problems ,fire wall needs to be stiffened up and make sure it clears valve cover . But you still need pedal set up I don't know what would work .
